Description of the attraction

In 1901, securing the western corner of Teatralnaya Square, the building of the Moskovskaya Hotel was built at the expense of the Saratov Mutual Credit Society. The author of the project was the city architect A. M. Salko, who used elements of old Russian architecture in the design of the building. The building was recognized as almost the best creation of the architect and is still one of the most beautiful architectural objects in the city. At the same time, it is important to note the good internal structure and functional perfection for the period of construction of the building.

From the moment of its construction, the hotel "Moskovskaya" (which at first was called "Bolshaya Moskovskaya") was arranged in it, which changed its name from the GIBarykin hotel that had existed here since 1873. An advertisement for the establishment in 1912 read: “The Great Moscow Hotel in Saratov. First class restaurant. Two-story hall. Luxuriously furnished rooms. Gourmet cuisine under personal supervision. Owner AMTakanaev ".

On the first floor of the building, a shop of a Moscow entrepreneur was first set up, and on the upper floors there were hotel rooms. After World War II, the first floor of the building was traditionally occupied by “Kulinariya” and a large grocery store, which was divided in the late 1960s into two: Gastronome No. 1 and “Romashka”. With the onset of post-perestroika times, many rooms of the hotel began to be rented out for offices of new firms and institutions, the grocery store gave way to a wealthy private catering enterprise.

In 2004, the building underwent a major overhaul, with the replacement of old wooden floors with modern, more durable and reliable structures. The exterior of the building was left in its original form. The premises of the restaurant began to receive the first visitors from the end of 2007, and it is possible that the hotel will open soon, restoring the former grandeur of the unique building.
