Description of the attraction

Phnom Kulen National Park is located in the mountain range of the same name in the province of Siemrip. This area during the Angkorian era was called Mahendraparavata (mountain of the Great Indra), here Jayavarman II declared himself a chakravartin (high king) and declared independence from Java, founding today's Cambodia.

The top of the hill is home to 56 Angkorian temples made of laterite and volcanic rock, but most of them are in a semi-ruined state.

For tourists in our time, the temples of Prasat krau Romaas, Rong Chen (the main mountain temple), Sra Damrei (Lake of Elephants) and numerous bas-reliefs and carvings are available. At the top of the hill is a Buddhist pagoda and a large sculpture of the resting Buddha, 8 meters long, carved from a single piece of sandstone in the 16th century.

A separate attraction is a waterfall with water considered sacred, divided into two parts. The height of the first is from four to five meters, the width varies from 20 to 25 meters in dry and rainy seasons. The second waterfall is higher and with a smaller bowl, water is discharged from a height of 15 to 20 meters, the diameter of the pool is 10-15 meters, depending on the season.
