Description of the attraction

The Norwegian Postal Museum was established in 1947 in Oslo, but in 2003 it moved to Lillehammer, Mayhaugen. The Postal Museum reflects the more than 360-year history of the Norwegian Postal Service through paintings, photographs and texts. There are even exhibits dedicated to modern communications such as e-mail and short text messages.

In 1854 the first railway line in Norway was opened, which was intended for the delivery of correspondence. Sorting of mail and stamping of letters were carried out in special cars during the movement of the train.

At the exhibition, visitors can see all the Norwegian postage stamps that have existed since 1855, as well as explore ways to develop effective communication for the public postal service of Norway, which has overcome many difficulties on its way due to the mountainous landscape and the harsh climate of the country.
