Description of the attraction
National Museum-Estate of N. I. Pirogov, which is located in Vinnitsa, is a picturesque estate in which Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov lived and worked for a long time. The world famous surgeon and scientist, the founder of military field surgery, one of the founders of the Red Cross society, spent the last twenty years of his life in this estate. The museum was opened on September 9, 1947, its main goal is to preserve the characteristics of the cultural environment in which this unique person lived and worked.
The museum complex includes a small house of one and a half floors, and a pharmacy, which was built by Pirogov himself. And also a small church-necropolis, built in 1885, and in which, since 1888, the embalmed body of N. I. Pirogov.
Nikolai Ivanovich bought a neglected estate, which he put in order in a short time. Here he organized a hospital, in which he performed operations that were difficult at that time, which no one had dared to do before. A garden planted by the scientist himself has survived to this day; it is also part of the museum. It will also be interesting to visit the pharmacy museum, where you can see photographs of the interiors of the operating room and the waiting room where the doctor worked.
And in the house where the great scientist lived and worked, household items are still preserved, and there is an exposition showing the history of his life. This museum will allow you to plunge into the amazing atmosphere of that time, to touch the life of a person who changed medicine, giving hope for life to those who were previously considered hopeless patients. And walking in the shade of trees planted two hundred years ago, one involuntarily thinks about the frailty of human life, and those unique doctors who conquered human souls from death, giving them the opportunity to live on.
