Tivat has always been important and even a little regal. The Montenegrin resort on the Adriatic got its name in honor of Queen Teuta, who ruled Illyria. Islands near Tivat
Boka Kotorska is the largest bay of the Adriatic, which is a river canyon flooded by the sea. Several small bays stand out in the bokeh, and its islands are of constant interest for tourists who prefer to spend time on active excursions:
- Miholska Prevlaka is a very small piece of land in the Tivat Bay. Its length is a little more than three hundred meters. The main attraction of the island is the monastery of St. Michael. The monastery was built on the Island of Flowers, as Mikholsku prevlaka is often called, in the 6th century. It was here that the residence of the Metropolitan of the Principality of Zeta was located. In the XV century. the monastery perished in the fire because of the superstitions of the Venetians then ruling on these lands. Four hundred years later, restoration began, which Ekaterina Vlastelinovich took up. The Balkan Countess raised funds for the reconstruction of the monastery, which today, although not fully repaired, is still active.
- The monastery of the Holy Mother of God on the island of the Merciful Wife dates back to the 15th century. Its construction began in 1479, and after half a century the monastery passed under the auspices of the Franciscan order. The monks quietly worked within the walls of the Most Holy Theotokos for about a hundred years, until the Ottoman soldiers tried to expel Christianity from the western part of the Balkans. The monastery was restored by the whole world after the liberation from the Turks; at the end of World War II, it was again consigned to oblivion. Today, pilgrims continue to strive to the island of the Merciful Wife in order to fall to the shrine - a wooden sculpture of the Virgin of the 15th century, miraculously survived in the crucible of history.
- The wild beaches of St. Mark's Island are the exact opposite of the previous attractions of Boka Kotorska. This island is a place for those who like nude photo shoots and prefer topless sunbathing. There are also enough nudists on St. Mark, and therefore it is not accepted to go to the island with the whole family in Tivat.
You can get to the Island of Flowers by a small bridge connecting the mainland with Mikholskaya Prevlaka. You will have to go to the islands of St. Mark and the Merciful Wife by boat or speedboat. They leave from the berths in Tivat. You can either hire a boat yourself, or buy a tour and get on an organized guided tour.
To Saint Sava
The temple in the center of Tivat is dedicated to Saint Sava, one of the most revered people on the Balkan Peninsula. He was the son of the Serbian prince Stefan Nemani and, as a young man, went on a pilgrimage to Mount Athos, where he later, together with his father, recreated the Khilandar monastery. Today the monastery is one of the most famous and significant on the Holy Mountain.
Saint Sava more than once made pilgrimages to Jerusalem, where he founded a monastery and a hospital. His relics were burned in Belgrade, where a huge temple was dedicated to Savva.
The church in Tivat was built in honor of Saint Sava in the middle of the 20th century. The authors of the project were Montenegrin architects. They took advantage of neo-Byzantine traditions, and the temple turned out to be majestic and light. The towers of the church soar into the sky to a height of 65 meters.

The name Porto Montenegro appeared in Tivat thanks to the Canadian Peter Munch. A businessman in love with the Adriatic from the country of the maple leaf decided to build a berth for sea yachts at the resort, where ships of solid displacement and considerable size could moor. Thanks to his efforts, a marina appeared in Tivat, equal to which cannot be found within a radius of several hundred nautical miles. The Porto Montenegro piers will be able to park up to four hundred ships at one time. The size of the yachts also inspires respect, and the hundred-meter beauties in the roadstead in Tivat are more the rule than the exception.
Another object in Tivat, where a tourist keen on the sea theme should go, appeared at the resort several years ago. One of the boathouses of the local pier was equipped for the museum exposition. The collection includes several hundred exhibits and is dedicated to the maritime traditions of the region. The museum displays rigging equipment and old maps; authentic ship documents and instruments that enable ships to navigate the open ocean; photographs taken in the 19th century and weapons. Opposite the entrance to the boathouse, a submarine is installed, which was in service with the army of Yugoslavia.

The service at Prova can be called perfect, and the quality of food preparation is beyond praise.

Local cultural events that take place annually in Tivat and gather thousands of enthusiastic guests on the banks of the Boka Kotorska are among the sights of Montenegro.
The main event of the year is called Bokel night. This marine festival usually takes place in mid-August. Fans of beautiful yachts and marine entertainment gather for the holiday. The organizer for decades is the oldest maritime community Bokeljska mornarica, which has existed on the shores of the Bay of Kotor since the middle of the last century. The main event of the Bokelskaya night is a parade of festively decorated boats and yachts defiling in Boka Kotorska. According to the results of voting, three winners are chosen from among them, and in total at least fifty ships usually participate in the parade. Spectators have fun on the shore, tasting local cuisine and Montenegrin wines. The fun is accompanied by music and dancing.
Other must-see events in Tivat include Youth Day in May, the annual midsummer sailing regatta and the August theater festival.
