The Greek island of Corfu is the meeting point of two seas - the Ionian and the Adriatic. Both have a significant impact on the climatic conditions on the island and on vacation in this blessed corner. Despite the close proximity, the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic are not at all similar, even the water temperature differs by several degrees - the latter is always colder.
In the north of Corfu, dominated by the Adriatic Sea, there are quite strong winds and waves, the sea is often stormy. There are suitable conditions for water sports and extreme adventures. Along the coast there are wide sandy beaches with a flat flat bottom, in some places cut by pebble areas and a rocky coast.
Rapid mistrals and sirocco create pleasant coolness on the shore and save you from the heat, even on the hottest days, staying comfortable, albeit insidious - against the background of breezes, it is easy to overheat imperceptibly and get sunstroke. The southern Ionian part has a quieter atmosphere, there are no waves, the wind is replaced by light breezes. Beaches of fine sand mixed with shell rock, clean bottom, many areas with shallow water. The water is perfectly clear, tempting azure hue. The water temperature in the Ionian Sea in Corfu is 25-28 °. This place is not quite suitable for active recreation because of the inconstancy of the winds - they are rare here and you never know when to expect them.
The holiday season on the island lasts from May to October. In mid-May, the water is already warming up perfectly, and favorable weather sets in on land.
Leisure and tourism
The beaches are the main treasure of the island along with its richest cultural heritage. An impeccable ecology and clear water, a rich natural world open up amazing opportunities for relaxation and active pastime.
Water skiing, parasailing, yachting, jet skis, catamarans - the full range of classic sea activities is available. Surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing are popular in Corfu and especially in the northern part of it. The entire water area of the island is an excellent place for snorkeling, diving and sea fishing.
For children, the sea in Corfu offers a safe calm sea, warm water, shallow water and no currents. The south is ideal for family stays.
The best time for water sports is autumn, when windy weather sets on the coast and waves can reach several meters in height.

Underwater world
The warm climate and "kinship" with the Mediterranean Sea have given the local seas a fantastic variety of the underwater world. The most beautiful coral reefs approach the coast, in which an armada of funny inhabitants have found refuge.
Flounder, red tuna, mullet, mackerel, mussels, sea urchins, oysters, sea cucumbers, cuttlefish, crabs, seahorses, eels, moray eels, lobsters, octopus, blue sharks, sea foxes, polyps, dwarf sharks, fire worms, seahorses, dolphins, mackerel, starfish, sardines - such an impressive variety has been achieved through respect for nature.
Diving
The richness of the sea depths could not fail to attract lovers of water treasures and corals to the island. There are dozens of dive sites of various difficulty levels around Corfu. Experienced divers may find it boring here, of course, there is no such diversity as in the Red Sea or the Indian Ocean, as well as extreme routes, but you can warm up and enjoy your natural fantasy in full.
The best diving sites and conditions are found in the west of the island and near Kolovri Island. The sea in Corfu is perfectly clean, so visibility in the water can be tens of meters, depending on the depth and diving area.
