It is only natural that many want to know how to obtain citizenship of Malta. And all because local residents have privileges that apply not only to taxation and business development within the country, but also to crossing the borders of countries in the European Union.
Maltese children born on the territory of this island state automatically become its citizens. Also, those newborns, one of whose parents is a citizen of Malta, can become Maltese.
Even 15 years ago, the position of the child's father was taken into account. Over time, changes were made to the legislation, which ensured equality for both parents. The reality of naturalization
The correct way to obtain citizenship is to reside in the territory of the state of Malta for 5 years. A person applying for this must legally stay on the island in the status of a residence permit. But in fact, this term does not correspond to reality. De facto, it will take a person 18 years, and that preference is given to persons with refugee status, or people who were able to obtain asylum due to humanitarian disasters or other problems.
The procedure for obtaining citizenship based on the above factors is called "naturalization". The decision is made - not by the leaders of the Ministry, but by the head of a completely new organization called Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs. Not everyone is approved.
Obtaining citizenship by investment
The government of the state with a paradise nature has decided to launch a completely new and unique program that makes the process of obtaining citizenship easier. For its implementation, it is necessary to make investments that will be directed to the development of a number of areas of Malta.
The program was launched in the fall of 2013. Later, some changes were made to it. Thus, in March 2014, people were able to apply to become citizens of the island state.
In 2016, foreign investors can apply for citizenship only if the investment amount is at least 650,000.00 EUR. If the investor has a family, then its members can also obtain citizenship if they contribute 25,000.00 EUR each. At the same time, at the time of donation, the child must not overcome the threshold of majority.

Since, according to the laws of Malta, it is not necessary to adhere to a single citizenship, citizens can have several passports of completely different states. In Russia, there is also no restriction on this matter.
The process of obtaining citizenship by making investments is greatly facilitated. In this case, future nationals are not subject to the conditions of compulsory knowledge of English or the official language of Malta. At the same time, you can live anywhere in the world.
Basic requirements for permanent residents
This status can only be obtained by those who will meet the requirements established by the state as much as possible: annual income - 10,000.00 or more of the official currency of Malta; capital amount - not less than 150,000.00 liras; buying or renting a living space. It can be either an apartment or a house. The price of the purchased real estate must be at least 30,000, 00 liras for a house and 20,000, 00 for an apartment. If a lease is concluded, an amount of at least PLN 1,000.00 per year must be indicated.
A resident is required to declare income on the territory of the island state. At the same time, the money earned is subject to taxation under the laws of Malta. Additionally, money for each family member is subject to declaration. Maltese law has established the amount of such an amount - 1,000, 00 Maltese lira.

Malta citizenship is the dream of many. For its implementation, each applicant must provide a number of documents: passport of a citizen of any country; international passport; a certificate confirming the cleanliness of each family member who has reached the age of majority; original marriage certificate; when applying for a minor, his birth certificate is required.
