  • Hammamet or Mahdia - whose hotels are more respectable?
  • African or European cuisine
  • Entertainment in the resorts of Tunisia

The Black Continent can offer tourists many options for various pastimes. Most often, travelers choose cities located on the Mediterranean Sea, which are in no way inferior to European resorts. Guests only have to make their choice in favor of a particular region, stop on the mainland or go to the island of Djerba. Those dreaming of a quiet, quiet vacation stand at a crossroads - Hammamet or Mahdia? Let's try to evaluate these two resorts in several ways, let's compare, first of all, hotels, cuisine and entertainment.

Hammamet or Mahdia - whose hotels are more respectable?

Guests are resting in Yasmine Hammamet, where the tourist area of the city is located. The first thing that visitors see are modern comfortable hotels and a well-developed infrastructure. Most of the hotels in this Tunisian resort belong to the 3 *, 4 *, 5 * categories, and the difference between them is small, they are distributed evenly along the coastline. There is a road in front of the hotel complexes, which must be crossed to get to the beaches. The wide alley is good for evening walks.

Much smaller than Hammamet, Mahdia does not boast super-luxurious hotels, although there are hotel complexes ranging from 3 to 5 stars. Almost all of them are built on the first coastline, so there are only a few steps to the sea. Some of the hotels offer respectable rest, while others offer affordable prices.

African or European cuisine?

Hammamet is ready to please any gourmet, no matter what cuisine they like best. There are restaurants serving old Tunisian recipes. As a tribute to the country's French past, you can often see French cafes and restaurants here. Traditionally strong ties with the East are emphasized through a network of Arabic-style hookah bars.

Mahdia is called the fish capital of Tunisia, which is actively used by the guests of the resort. A highlight of the local cuisine is couscous cooked with fish, although traditional recipes involve lamb and vegetables. Not far from the port there is a small cafe, its territory is very picturesque - in the form of terraces on the rocks overlooking the sea. Only in this cafe you can taste amazingly delicious tea with pine nuts.

Entertainment in the resorts of Tunisia

Guests of Hammamet will not be bored, they have a lot of opportunities to organize their leisure time interesting, fun, informative, not taking into account the stay on the beach. For fans of ancient history, there is a direct path to the Old Medina, the historic heart of the city, walks along narrow, tangled streets, beautiful oriental architecture at every step.

Fans of ethnographic expeditions should go to "Mediterrania", this is the name of the Tunisian open-air museum. The project is based on the Arab-Muslim style, traditional for medieval buildings in this region of the country. The central place is occupied by Medina, along the perimeter it is surrounded by a fortress wall. Inside there is a hotel, a shopping arcade, where you can see the products of artisans working in the style of the old masters. In addition, there are many restaurants and cafes, so tourists leave the museum well-fed, both physically and spiritually.

It is difficult to imagine a seaside resort without a promenade; Mahdia has this amazing place, and it is very popular with tourists. The second attraction of the city is Medina, a quarter of houses built by medieval architects and hidden by them behind an imposing fortress wall. In the Medina, you can not only walk and contemplate the architectural highlights, but also have a delicious meal, there are wonderful restaurants with seafood.

Fans of antiquities should visit the Museum of Mahdia, where real cultural treasures are carefully preserved: old gold items made in a traditional style; wooden chests, an integral part of wedding rituals; collections of national Tunisian clothing. The beautiful religious buildings of Muslims deserve a special walk in Mahdia; the Bordj el-Kebir fortress is located not far from the resort.

The comparison of two Tunisian resorts located on the mainland allows us to come to certain conclusions.

Respectable Hammamet is preferred by tourists who:

  • love good living conditions and quality service;
  • love thalassotherapy procedures;
  • they prefer walks in the Medina to gatherings in a restaurant;
  • are interested in local history by visiting museums.

The Mahdia resort is a place where foreign guests gather who:

  • dream of a secluded vacation in the bosom of nature;
  • want to be able to choose between 3 * and 5 * hotels;
  • love walks in historical places;
  • prefer fish to meat;
  • ready to "dive" into the history, culture and nature of Tunisia.
