Tunisia is still unable to catch up with the neighboring powers, Egypt and Morocco, in terms of the number of tourists and the quality of services. Although there are wonderful resorts, for example, Mahdia or Sousse, which have common features and characteristic differences. Let's try to analyze the rest in these Tunisian resorts, evaluating individual components - beaches, hotels, cuisine, entertainment and attractions.

Mahdia or Sousse - whose beaches are the best?

In Mahdia, guests are expected by the purest white beaches, which are the hallmark of the resort. Since hotels are located most often on the sea coast, the beach is within walking distance. Those tourists who dream of a secluded getaway should find the Club Thapsus Hotel, which is the last in the city, followed by a three-kilometer secluded beach.

Since Sousse is the youngest of the Tunisian resorts, there is little concern about the quality of the beaches. Guests tired of the night do not notice individual errors in beach coverings. Although there are places here that are striking in their cleanliness and beauty, for example, the beaches in Port el-Kantaoui, which are quite comparable to the beaches of Mahdia.

Hotel fund

The resort of Mahdia is equally loyal to the wealthy and modest living potential travelers. The city has approximately the same number of hotels with 3 *, 4 * and 5 *. Regardless of the number of stars on the facade, most of the hotels are located on the very seashore, on the first line. It is clear that in 5 * hotels the service will be at a higher level, and the rooms themselves are more equipped.

Sousse is a youth resort, so there are no 5 * hotels at all, there are not so many 4 * hotels, in the city limits there are mainly complexes with 3 * on the facade. Some of them are located on the first line, quite comfortable, even have their own swimming pools.

Restaurants and cuisine

There are a sufficient number of restaurants and other food establishments in Mahdia. The city is called the fish capital of Tunisia, so fish and seafood are added to almost all dishes. A delicacy of this area is couscous with fish, although traditionally there should be mutton, in a pinch, vegetables. In Mahdia, you can taste an exotic drink - tea with pine nuts.

Sousse has a sufficient number of catering establishments, the most popular are Italian and Tunisian restaurants with a rich assortment of fish and seafood. Arab cafes offer to have fun with a hookah or a cup of aromatic coffee.

Tunisian shopping

Mahdia is not only the fish capital, but also the silk capital of Tunisia, so this fabric and products from it occupies not the last place in the shopping list. The market itself, which sells silk and silk items, is also curious. It is located in the Medina and is not much different from the markets that operated here during the Middle Ages. The traditional food gift is olive oil, which is sold in its pure form and as part of various cosmetics.

In Sousse there are souvenir shops at every hotel, a colorful old-fashioned market and a modern shopping and entertainment complex where you can buy everything you need to relax.

Entertainment and attractions

The main entertainment of tourists vacationing in the resort of Mahdia is walking, while the interests of tourists are divided: some go for a walk in the Medina, the second along the embankment. The old town will surprise you with a large number of preserved medieval buildings, a colorful market and small cozy restaurants. Among the architectural masterpieces of the resort, the following stand out: Black Gate; Great Mosque; Borj el-Kebir, an old fort.

In addition to walking along the historical part of the city and the embankment, diving is of interest to guests. Experienced explorers of the deep sea will be disappointed by the meager underwater world, while beginners will discover a lot of interesting things.

The town of Sousse will delight lovers of the Middle Ages, here the Medina with its picturesque streets and houses has been preserved, there is an old castle and the Ribat fortress, also built in the Middle Ages. The main artifacts are kept in the Museum of Archeology - these are beautiful mosaics, statues and a collection of masks. Another interesting museum is located in a house where wealthy Tunisians used to live. The expositions allow you to get acquainted with the life and culture of the former inhabitants.
