Spain is a recognized leader in European tourism, leaving France, Greece and Italy far behind. But between the Spanish resorts there is an unspoken competition, for example, which resort is better - Mallorca or Tenerife. Let's try to clarify this issue by evaluating the individual components of a good holiday - the beaches, the entertainment offered and the attractions available.

Mallorca or Tenerife - where are the coolest resorts?

The island of Mallorca is the largest in the Balearic archipelago and offers all the possibilities for spending time on the beach, playing sports, contemplating natural beauty and attractions. Holidays at the resorts of the island are relatively affordable in price, which attracts many tourists here. On the one hand, this means a highly developed tourist infrastructure, on the other hand, there are too many holidaymakers.

Tenerife is not much behind Mallorca in terms of the number of tourists, because it is the largest of the Canary Islands and the most famous. The resorts of this island are radically different from each other, you can find quiet, calm corners and, on the contrary, noisy, youthful corners that do not sleep either day or night. Tenerife also has its own entertainment center - Loro Parque, which has a botanical garden, a zoo, a dolphinarium and an oceanarium.

Where are the best beaches?

Mallorca boasts over 200 beaches that naturally differ from one another. Many of them have been awarded the Blue Flag for safety and cleanliness. In many places, pine trees and oak groves grow on the coast, the beaches themselves are covered with sand or pebbles.

The beaches are free, you will have to pay money for additional pleasures, such as umbrellas or sun loungers. One of the largest beaches, Playa de Palma, is characterized by the purity of the sea and sand, and a variety of beach activities. Playa de Muro is designed for children's swimming - comfortable descent, gentle bottom, shallow water.

Tenerife is an island of volcanic origin, so the beaches are very dark, almost black. Several "light" beaches are created artificially, the sand is brought here. Tenerife's beaches are suitable for walking and sunbathing, although some of them are sometimes windy. On the other hand, such beaches are a surfer's paradise.

Diving on the islands

Majorca has long been loved by experienced and novice divers. The underwater kingdom demonstrates the most beautiful reefs, caves, wrapped in algae, hundreds of species of marine life, you can even see sunken ships. There are diving schools in every resort, equipment is sold and rented. And in the park "Palma Aquarium" they offer to organize an underwater wedding ceremony.

Tenerife is not all suitable for diving, the best diving spots are in the south and southwest of the island. The danger is that in some regions there are constant strong winds and high waves, which makes diving a rather dangerous activity. Experienced divers are not advised to start training at popular resorts, where the seabed is leveled for the convenience of tourists, and the fauna has long found quieter places.

Attractions and entertainment

Mallorca has many historical, cultural and architectural attractions. Among the pearls that are attractive to tourists are the capital's buildings and structures: the Cathedral; Chapel of the Holy Trinity; The Historical Museum, located at Bellver Castle; Almudaina Palace.

Among the natural monuments, the Dragon's Cave stands out, in which you can see grottoes and halls decorated with stalactites and underground lakes. Beautiful panoramic views open at Cape Formentor.

The island of Tenerife, on the contrary, attracts with its natural resources, first of all, tourists are in a hurry to visit the Teide National Park, the main attraction of which is the volcano of the same name. Most excursions on the island involve the sea and travel to Los Gigantes, huge cliffs near which whales love to swim.

The second most popular park is the Pyramids of Guimar, attracting the attention of ancient structures, the purpose of which is still debated by scientists. The town of Orotava is interesting, it has preserved many buildings of the so-called Canarian architecture.

Evaluating the islands of Tenerife and Mallorca according to different indicators, one can come to conclusions.

Tenerife resorts are chosen by those tourists who:

  • dream of a luxurious vacation in the most beautiful of the Canary Islands;
  • love exotic black sand on the beach;
  • plan to master windsurfing, but are indifferent to diving;
  • would like to see whales and get to know the Canarian architecture.

Majorca resorts are chosen by vacationers who:

  • want to find a fun, active holiday on the islands, not on the mainland;
  • adore the most delicate golden sand or rounded pebbles on the beach;
  • dream of seriously diving and discovering a new type of shell or coral;
  • love historical sights;
  • are not afraid to walk in the Dragon Cave.

The islands of Majorca and Tenerife are so different, but they promise many pleasant discoveries and happy days!
