Despite the political and economic crisis, Greece is not going to give up its leading position in the field of European tourism. A traveler who has reached this fertile territory has to decide which island to choose for rest, Crete, Rhodes or Corfu. There is a difference between them, to someone it may seem insignificant, for someone it is fundamental.

Let's try to make an easy comparative analysis of the islands of Rhodes and Corfu in order to find out their main attractive features for tourists from abroad.

Rhodes or Corfu - who is more?

The answer to this question is unequivocal - Rhodes is officially one of the largest Greek islands. It is part of the Dodecanese archipelago, but due to its size it is considered as a separate geographical entity. The size of the island has greatly influenced the development of local resorts, therefore, there are always a lot of tourists here.

The island of Corfu belongs to the group of the Ionian Islands, but it also stands out for its size and geographical position, it occupies the most northerly positions in the archipelago. There are different resorts here, and relatively noisy, with a large number of tourists and, accordingly, entertainment. There are also quiet, peaceful places in Corfu, suitable for a secluded pastime.

Beach holidays on the islands

From this point of view, the islands are quite similar. Rhodes is washed by two seas - the Aegean and the Mediterranean. It is this fact that determines the presence of different beaches, in the west of the island the shores are covered with small pebbles, constant winds blow here and there is space for windsurfing fans. In the eastern part of the island, the beaches are sandy, suitable for sunbathing and sea baths.

The beaches of Corfu also have pebble and sandy cover, which allows you to choose a more convenient place for a tourist to relax. The winds here are not as strong as experienced surfers need, but there are various water attractions: sailing on yachts, catamarans, jet skis, boats; funny fun - riding bananas; ground sports such as beach volleyball. Many of Corfu's beaches have bars, cafes, antique-style taverns, which also allows you to have a good time.

Summer fun

The most popular entertainment in Rhodes is diving, there are four centers offering training and certificates. Of course, in comparison with the Red Sea, local dive sites are losing, but there are beautiful landscapes, you can admire ancient amphoras, some interesting representatives of the underwater world.

Other types of extreme sea recreation are presented, in Faliraki - canoeing and parasailing, in Prasonisi - a paradise for surfers, you can go in for kitesurfing, and more familiar windsurfing, hiking tourist routes are popular.

Corfu is not so developed in this regard, although there are dive centers and clubs where you can go in for fitness or golf. There are many more opportunities for cultural and historical excursions on this island.

Greek landmarks

Rhodes is a place where you can find both natural and man-made attractions. Among the beautiful corners of the island's nature is the Valley of the Butterflies, during the season you can see thousands of these beautiful insects fluttering over the flowers. The second, no less beautiful valley can be called the Valley of Seven Springs, along which many marked paths are laid for nature-loving travelers.

Historical monuments and architectural masterpieces are located throughout the island. Beautiful structures with a long history can be found in the main city, which bears the same name - Rhodes. The towns of Lindos and Kamiros amaze with their ancient architecture, where you can get acquainted with the classical antique planning of the polis.

Corfu is called the islands of monasteries, their number is close to a thousand, so the main part of the excursions is associated with pilgrimage to the most famous churches and cathedrals. Many of them were built in the XIII century and have been well preserved to our time. The main city of Kerkyra is also of interest to lovers of Greek history. A large number of ancient buildings and structures have survived in the Old Town, and Spianad Square is considered the most beautiful not only in Corfu, but in all of Greece.

Comparing the Greek resorts of Rhodes and Corfu allows you to determine what are the fundamental and insignificant differences between them.

  • they like to relax in large, crowded resorts;
  • want to be able to choose between a quiet and active beach pastime;
