Excursions in Lithuania, through ancient cities and idyllic plain landscapes, the Baltic coast, health resorts and sanatoriums - there are many opportunities for recreation.
Excursion options in Lithuania
From Lithuanian cities, Vilnius, the main city of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and no less ancient Kaunas, a small town of Trakai with a magnificent restored castle and Kernavė, which is considered the most ancient Lithuanian capital, attract attention.
A separate direction is travel to Lithuanian national parks located in different regions of the country: Aukštaitija; Dzukiya; Samogitia; Curonian Spit; historical national park in Trakai. Each of these places is interesting in its own way, the first three refer to distinctive ethnic regions, walks in picturesque places can be combined with participation in ethnographic and folklore festivals, in master classes based on ancient local crafts. In addition to large national natural, historical and ethnographic parks, there are about 30 parks in Lithuania in different regions of the country.
Lithuania occupies a relatively small territory, but this does not mean that you can go around it in two hours. For a large sightseeing tour, it will take several days, in Vilnius, or rather, in the Old Town, you can also walk for 2-3 days, discovering new sights and monuments every day.

But the main goal of travelers is a magnificent medieval castle, located in an amazingly picturesque place, surrounded by numerous lakes. It was not always like that, in the middle of the twentieth century the castle appeared in an almost completely destroyed form, only the remnants of the fortress walls could tell about its former greatness.
Trakai Castle is under state protection, it has been rebuilt, restored and restored. It acts not only as a tourist attraction, but also as a museum. When creating the expositions, the most modern museum technologies were used, so it evokes the most amazing emotions among visitors.
Other interesting places in Trakai are numerous Karaite restaurants. Karaites, former residents of the Crimean peninsula, came to Lithuanian lands in the 16th century. They have adapted well to local conditions, created their own community in Trakai and are actively involved in the restaurant business. This is another tourist highlight of the place.
Heart of Lithuania
Most of the excursions offered in Lithuania are related to Vilnius, an ancient beautiful city, rich in historical and cultural objects and sights. The Gediminas Tower is a preserved part of the Upper Vilnius Castle, located on the Castle Hill. You can climb to it by funicular, but most tourists use the wide spiral path, thus making the climb quite easy even for older tourists. But on the way, you can take beautiful pictures of the tower itself and the surroundings.
