  • Capital excursions in Iceland
  • Journey to the world of elves
  • Icelandic "Golden Ring"

After the Icelandic team defeated England, which is considered the ancestor of the game, at the 2016 European Football Championship, the tourism potential of the country of the winners of the match has grown dramatically. Many travelers dream of going on excursions in Iceland, getting to know each other better and, perhaps, discovering the secret of phenomenal success.

The only obstacle on the way of tourists is the remoteness of the state from the continent, all other components of a good holiday are available. Iceland proudly showcases unearthly beautiful landscapes, hills, geyser valleys and its own Blue Lagoon.

Capital excursions in Iceland

An overview of the most popular excursion routes in Iceland should start, of course, from the capital. A walk around Reykjavik costs from 200 € for a group of friends, it will take from 2 to 4 hours. The capital of the state is a stylish, modern, very beautiful city. It occupies the territory of the peninsula, so the name from the local language is translated as "Smoking Bay".

A walk around the city will allow you to get acquainted with the past, present and future of Reykjavik, the following important objects are included in the sightseeing tour:

  • House of Khovdi, which became the place of the historic meeting of the presidents of the two largest powers of the world, the USSR and the USA;
  • Parliament of the capital;
  • Hallgrimskirkja - the main city cathedral;
  • House-Museum of Asmundur Sveinsson, a famous Icelandic sculptor.

Many sights and interesting places of the capital are associated with thermal waters. For example, the city has a pool called Liegardalur, which is open-air and is filled with thermal waters coming directly from wells.

Another notable building in Reykjavik is the Pearl, a flower-shaped building. Each petal of this architectural masterpiece is a reservoir filled with thermal water. In the same building there is an observation deck with a café and a revolving restaurant. Tourists take the most stunning panoramic photographs of the city from this point.

Journey to the world of elves

Many football commentators, after the victorious game of the Icelandic team, started talking about mysticism, the help of otherworldly forces. The players themselves did not debunk this myth, especially since many in the country believe in spirits, elves and other representatives of parallel worlds. Some excursions offer tourists to plunge into the world of "fantasy", there are more than enough reasons for this.

One of the itineraries itinerary involves visiting the Reykjanes Peninsula and the most famous Blue Lagoon. The excursion is combined, by bus (car) and on foot, duration up to 7 hours, the price of the issue is within the range of 100-200 €. During the trip, guests will learn a lot about the history of Iceland, the island itself, and its amazing nature.

The most mysterious place that guests will see along the way is Krisuvik, a geothermal field, it boils and seethes with hot springs. They are painted in different colors and evoke strong emotions in the audience. Other points of interest along the route include Kleivarnvatn Lake and Reykanesviti Lighthouse. The final stop is on the coast, where Grindavik is located, a traditional fishing village, picturesque rock formations and a polyphonic bird colony.

Since the temperature in the Blue Lagoon rarely drops below 40 ° C, a rare tourist will deny himself the pleasure of swimming in this fabulous place. In addition, the healing properties of the lagoon are known far beyond Iceland.

Icelandic "Golden Ring"

The developers of this tourist route did not focus on guests from Russia, although its name coincides with the most famous Russian tour. The focus is not on ancient cities with their historical monuments, but on the unique nature of Iceland. The first stop on the way will be in the National Park with the beautiful name of Tingvellir and the same beautiful landscapes. The main attraction of this protected area is the lake. It played an important role in the history of the state, since it was on the banks of the reservoir in 930 that the decision was made to create the Icelandic parliament, the first in the country and the oldest in Europe.

The next stop awaits guests in the famous Valley of Geysers, where, as if by magic, hot fountains soar up here and there. The final chord in this magical journey will be the Golden Waterfall, the glacial river Khvitau noisily goes into a narrow canyon, the depth of which is more than 30 meters. It is possible that tourists are lucky enough to see the northern lights.
