Among the Catholic churches, the main role is played by the cathedral church, consecrated in honor of Saints Peter and Paul (historians of architecture will note the Baroque style). For tourists wondering what to visit in Tbilisi on their own, locals strongly recommend a trip to the Narikala fortress, which is the architectural dominant of the capital of Georgia. The construction of fortifications and fortress walls began in the 4th century, the Persians were the first to be noted in the construction.
During the reign of the Arab emirs, the fortress significantly expanded its borders. True, ten centuries later it suffered greatly, at that time Tiflis was already part of the Russian Empire. Arms depots were placed on the territory of Narikala, which exploded. At the same time, not only the fortress was damaged, but also the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, located here.
Today the Narikala Fortress is an important tourist attraction that attracts many travelers from different states and continents. The hike here is also good because it allows you to combine an independent detour of the ancient fortifications with a sightseeing of natural attractions that open from a height. Going downstairs, guests of the Georgian capital find themselves in the Tbilisi Botanical Garden, where you can see the most beautiful representatives of the local flora and guests from distant exotic countries.

Like any other capital, Tbilisi has many different museums and is proud of them. Among such institutions of the main city of the country, the most popular is the Archaeological Museum. Its funds contain amazing artifacts related to the ancient history of Georgia, many of them are presented in permanent exhibitions, others are shown at temporary exhibitions and cultural and exhibition projects.
Unique collections of Georgian and foreign paintings, graphics, sculptures are kept in the Art Museum of Tbilisi. There is one not quite familiar museum in the capital of Georgia, which is adored by children who live here or come from other settlements - the Museum of Dolls. Its exhibits tell about the history of the appearance of the first toys on the planet, their development, improvement, today.
You can see how people lived on this land 100-200 years ago by visiting the Ethnomuseum, a Georgian skansen. True, for this you will have to leave the capital, going to the suburbs. In this open-air museum, employees have collected and recreated more than seven dozen houses typical for different regions of the country. The houses represent the life of the ancient Georgians, you can see dishes, furniture, get acquainted with the art of old masters and buy wonderful souvenirs.
Interestingly, the museum is located in a picturesque place, on the shores of Turtle Lake, about the name of which there are many legends. Therefore, it is advisable, in this museum, not to go to inspect historical sights on your own, but to book an excursion. During it, you can learn many interesting facts from Georgian history, as well as why the lake has such a name.
Walk along the main avenue
Such a route must be included in the program of your stay in Tbilisi. One of the most beautiful and widest streets in the Georgian capital is Shota Rustaveli Avenue. It is especially pleasant to walk along it, because on both sides there are beautiful plane tree alleys that stretch for one and a half kilometers.
Among the main architectural and historical monuments located on this avenue, tourist brochures name the National Museum, the buildings where the Georgian Parliament, academicians and scientists sit, and the Opera Theater. There are also many Georgian restaurants offering national cuisine.
