The states of the Scandinavian Peninsula have long been famous for the standard of living of their citizens. And Sweden is far from being in last place here. A large territory with a very small number of residents is distinguished by exceptional convenience and thoughtful movement. Roads in Sweden, even in the very north, are always passable and kept in near perfect condition.
Road network
Sweden can be divided into two parts:
- the flat south, where most of the population lives and where there are many large and small cities;
- the extended north, part of which lies beyond the Arctic Circle, where there are very few inhabitants.
In the south, all territories are literally strewn with roads that connect settlements. When moving north, the density of roads decreases, in the most extreme territories they meet occasionally, crossing the country from west to east.
A distinctive feature of all roads in this country, regardless of their location, is the highest quality. And this despite the not the easiest climate for asphalt pavement! Sweden has strict time limits for road repair and snow removal. Thanks to them, driving on Swedish highways makes any journey easy and enjoyable.
Another pleasant surprise for the traveler is the lack of fares. The exceptions are some long bridges, as well as Stockholm and a few sections near the border.
Since the population density in Sweden is low, there are no traffic jams as such, with the exception, again, of the capital. Even outside the city, most roads have at least two lanes, which, in the absence of cars, sometimes causes genuine surprise. It is impossible to get lost here - the abundance of signs warning in advance about exits and forks provides invaluable assistance to the tourist.
Features of roads in Sweden
When preparing a trip to this northern country, the following points should be considered:
- Any violation of the rules of behavior on the roads is punishable by high fines. Exceeding the speed limit even by a couple of kilometers per hour will not go unnoticed. And the presence of alcohol in the blood can even lead to imprisonment.
- A significant part of Sweden's territory passes through forests, and therefore there are frequent cases of animals entering the road. You should be prepared for this turn of events.
- Along the roads, you can always find comfortable places to rest, equipped as conveniently as possible.
- In large cities, especially Stockholm, it is not easy to find a parking spot, which is paid.
- If it is not only convenient, but also easy to travel outside the city by car, then in Stockholm, for example, it is better to use public transport or change to a bicycle. There are many restrictions for drivers, and a special fee is introduced to relieve the capital of vehicles.
Despite the large extent of the country and the small population, Sweden manages to maintain an excellent road network with excellent quality of the road and convenient infrastructure for the rest of the travelers. By renting a car or arriving in your own, you can travel the whole country, enjoying the comfort and magnificent picturesque nature.
