  • Along Bolshaya Sadovaya

So many epithets did not get this southern Russian city: the most famous of them are “Rostov-papa”, “City-merchant”, and “Gates of the Caucasus”. Walking around Rostov-on-Don, a city with a rich historical past, will bring many discoveries. One of them is associated with the Armenian culture, which is widely represented in this settlement.

The city has several amazing architecture buildings, their age is not so solid, but it is impossible to pass by. The first such masterpiece of the constructivist era is the building of the local drama theater. It is not clear what ideas and trends prompted the architects to design it in the form of a tractor.

The second unusual building, located on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, has the shape of a piano; fortunately, it houses a musical theater, and this is more justified than in the case of its "colleague", a dramatic theater.

Among other architectural sights of Rostov-on-Don, the city's cathedral is noted. The temple complex was built according to the standard project of the Russian architect Konstantin Ton (he is the author of the project of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow).

Summer city walks

Rostov-on-Don has another affectionate name - "The City of Five Seas", although in fact the Don is the only water stream, and the nearest Sea of Azov is a good fifty kilometers away. However, there is Levberdon, a recreation area similar to those found in every resort town.

It is located on the left bank of the great Don, local residents proudly assure that it has no equal in length in Europe. Restaurants, cafes and bars, clubs and beaches have found a place on the embankment. Having come here once, it is very difficult to part with this world of light, sun, music, happiness. There is only one minus - in winter, most of the establishments are closed.

Along Bolshaya Sadovaya

The street with such a beautiful name - Bolshaya Sadovaya - is considered one of the most beautiful in Rostov-on-Don. The first buildings appeared on it in 1781, although the street did not have a name. At first she was christened Zagorodnaya, that is, located outside the gardens. Very often, unscrupulous owners of land plots brought garbage and all sorts of household waste here.

The situation changed in the second half of the 19th century, when kerosene lanterns appeared on the street, then a water supply system. The first electric tram in the city began to run along the same street, which received the new name Bolshaya Sadovaya.
