Novosibirsk was founded at the end of the 16th century on the site of a colony of Russian settlers located on the left bank of the Ob River. Before the revolution, it was called Novonikolaevsk. Now it is one of the largest industrial and economic centers in Russia and the largest city in the Siberian region with a population of over one and a half million people, which is why it is often called the capital of Siberia.

Walking around Novosibirsk can help guests of this beautiful city learn a lot about both it and Siberia in general.

What is Novosibirsk famous for?

Novosibirsk Akademgorodok was created in 1957, when no one had heard of the now famous Silicon Valley. On its streets, simultaneously with the residential village, a complex of many research and educational centers was organized, where Soviet scientists, along with the development of all sorts of scientific problems, were preparing their young shift: in addition to the university, there were schools for especially gifted children who came to Novosibirsk from the entire USSR. In the 90s of the last century, the significance of Akademgorodok as an all-Union scientific center was lost, but today it is reviving again.

The opera house can rightfully be called the symbol of the cultural life of Novosibirsk. Although it was opened only after the war, it was built before it began, thanks to which many exhibits of the capital's museums were kept there, which were evacuated to the city in 1941.

The Novosibirsk Philharmonic is notable for the fact that it was created by the method of "people's construction": funds for it were collected through the sale of special postcards depicting a model of the future building. Such a postcard cost exactly the same as one brick, which is why they became popularly known as "bricks". Now every "brick" has become a rarity, which is hunted by philokartists not only in Russia, but all over the world.

The collection of animals of the Novosibirsk Zoo is one of the largest in Russia. He gained particular fame after a hybrid offspring, a ligress, was obtained here from a tiger and a lioness. The likelihood of such cases is extremely low, only about 2%, so it has attracted a lot of attention from both scientists and visitors to the zoo.

However, even briefly listing all the places worth seeing in Novosibirsk is simply impossible. As you know, nothing can replace personal acquaintance: this statement is true for both people and cities.
