Traveling to Jamaica promises to be very interesting, as there are many interesting places in terms of tourism. On the island, you can have a wonderful time just lounging in the sun, and you can plan an active vacation. It all depends on personal preference.
Despite the fact that Jamaica is one of the developed countries, it is highly discouraged to leave the large tourist and resort areas.
Jamaica visa: what you need to know
Russians do not need a visa to visit the island, and the coveted stamp in their passport will be placed on the territory of the airport without any additional requirements. But only if the length of stay does not exceed a full calendar month.
Residents of other countries will need to collect the following documents: passport, which will be valid until the end of the trip; return tickets; hotel room reservation; credit card (the account must contain funds that will be enough for the entire stay on the island, at the rate of fifty dollars per day).
Children over fourteen years old must have their own passport.
How to fly to Jamaica
You can take a direct flight from Russia to Jamaica only from Moscow - the Moscow - Montego Bay flight. But most often, travelers choose connecting flights.
When choosing British Airways, the transfer will be in London (a transit visa will be required, since there is a high probability of spending the night in the capital of England). If the preference is given to Lufthansa and Condor, the flight to Montego Bay will include a transfer at Frankfurt Airport.
Aeroflot and American Airlines offer a flight to Jamaica with a connection in Miami. There are also French companies - Air France and Delta. In this case, a double transfer is assumed - Paris and Atlanta.
Transport in Jamaica
Public transport on the island is very well developed and the price of the trip is not too high.
The most budgetary and fastest way to travel around the country is a fixed-route taxi. This is a five-seater passenger car, which sometimes manages to fit more than eight people. These taxis run between two adjacent cities. A half-hour ride costs two dollars. If a change is required on the way, then it is enough just to warn the driver of your minibus. In the right place, he will stop and "transfer" the passenger to another driver.
But tourists are still advised to take official taxis. Cars are more comfortable here and the trip will go in comfortable conditions. The fare is mostly fixed. Double pay is a guarantee that the driver will take you to a neighboring city.
Many private traders travel along the city streets. Bargaining is possible here, but the price must be set prior to boarding.
When organizing a trip to Jamaica on your own, you need to remember that international medical insurance is required to enter the country.
