Until 1961, this settlement was just a workers' settlement, although it occupied territories on the sea coast. Adler's story is inextricably linked with Sochi. Thanks to such a wonderful neighbor, mild climate and good geographical position, it has turned from an urban-type settlement into a resort.
The last Winter Olympics, held in Sochi, made it possible to significantly improve the infrastructure in Adler, expand the network of hotels and hotels of various levels, and increase the number of sports and cultural institutions, most of which are now empty.
Russian fortification
The earliest pages of Adler's history are associated with the expansion of the borders of the Russian Empire, with the need for their protection and protection. In the place where today a beautiful seaside town is spread, a settlement appeared that had a slightly strange name - the Strengthening of the Holy Spirit. Apparently, the first inhabitants of the built fort hoped not only for their own strengths and weapons, but called on higher powers to help them.
True, the toponym changed very soon, since there was a quay nearby that belonged to a local Abkhaz settlement. The pier and the area around it were called "Arty". The word came from the Turkish language, since the main trading partners of the Abkhaz were in Turkey. The name of the area was gradually assigned to the Russian settlement, later transformed into Adler.
Settlement in the XIX – XX centuries
Since 1866, after the end of the Caucasian War, a peaceful period of the fort's life begins. Dozens of residents of the European part of Russia come here in search of a better life. True, by the end of the 19th century, less than 150 permanent residents lived in Adler.
The end of the century is characterized by the revitalization of the economy, the development of the transport system, including in this region. Most importantly, they began to build a road that was supposed to connect Adler and Kbaade, a place that is now well known to everyone as Krasnaya Polyana. October 1917 opens a new period in the history of Adler, however, in the early years the situation was unstable, associated with the establishment of power by the Soviets and the White movement.
Now Adler is a famous Russian resort on the Black Sea.
