One of the regional centers of the Russian Federation got its name in honor of the tributary of the Oka - the Orlik River. It is the presence of waterways and a convenient location that contributed to the fact that the history of the city began here.
Eagle Fortress
Archaeological excavations in the area of Oka and Orlik have shown that people lived here already in the XII century. True, the date of the founding of the city is 1566, and Ivan the Terrible became the king who contributed to its appearance. It was on his orders that a fortress with this name was erected, its task is to defend the southern borders of Russia.
It is clear that the first inhabitants of the newly built fortress were military people, after 10 years a Cossack settlement appeared on the right bank of the Oka, which had its own wooden church.
After another 150 years, the city began to develop rapidly, its mission, as a defender of the southern borders, gradually faded into the background. In 1708, by order from above, this city was assigned to the Kiev province, after a very short time it received new powers as the center of the province.
Building according to the rules
Eagle was lucky, since a plan of architectural development was developed, the city was conditionally divided into parts: Kromskaya (Old Town), Moscow, Zaorlitskaya. Construction proceeded at a rapid pace, and it was ordered to erect only stone buildings, to organize in each part of the site for trade.
In the second half of the 19th century, many important events took place in the city: the first road surface, water supply, city fire brigade appeared, telegraph communication was organized. Banking is developing, branches of the most famous banking institutions in Russia appear.
Stormy events of the twentieth century
Description of the history of the Eagle is a short description of events known to everyone, including the First and Second World Wars, between them the February and October revolutions, the Civil War, the establishment of Soviet power. In the 1930s, in connection with the implementation of administrative and territorial reforms, the Oryol province was liquidated, the city belongs either to the Central Black Earth Region or to the Kursk Region.
Since 1937, a new countdown begins - Oryol again becomes the center, this time of the Oryol region. Today it is a large Russian city with many enterprises associated with heavy industry, the production of electrical equipment, metal products, and food products.
