Description of the attraction
The Chocolate Museum, romantically called the Chocolate Story of Bruges, is housed in the historic mansion de Croon, which was built in 1480. Initially, it housed a wine cellar, and then a bakery. In the 20th century, a scientific society, a police school and a job center worked consistently in this building.
Together with the entrance ticket, each guest receives a Belgian chocolate bar, and then - at the exit - another one. Having strengthened in this way and having tuned himself in a benevolent and contemplative mood, the guest is ready to perceive the information that the local exposition is ready to provide him with. And she tells, no less, about the history of obtaining chocolate from cocoa beans, about the peculiarities of their cultivation, about the traditions of chocolate production in the countries of South America. As you know, the Aztecs and Mayans, who prepared a thick drink from cocoa beans, considered these fruits to be the best offering to their gods.
In the Chocolate Museum in Bruges, you can learn that until the 19th century, every chocolate candy was made by hand. It is only not so long ago that they began to build factories for the production of chocolate. However, even in our time, handmade chocolate is considered the most exquisite and delicious. Part of the exposition is dedicated to local chocolate. Finally, you can watch the work of the chocolatier, who accompanies his actions with a story in English and Dutch.
The museum has a gift shop where you can buy Belgian chocolate - the best souvenir from Belgium, molds for making chocolates of various shapes and sizes, and cookbooks, which contain the most popular local recipes for making chocolate.
