There are many mysterious places on planet Earth that attract tourists from different parts of the world. The history of Machu Picchu, one of the ancient and mysterious cities of the American continent, is on everyone's lips. He received many beautiful definitions, such as "city in heaven", "lost city of the Incas", "new wonder of the world."
Imperial residence
The great ruler of the Incas with the fantastically sounding name Pachacutec Yupanqui set himself the task of not just building a city, he had higher goals: to build an elegant imperial residence (for himself and his descendants) and leave his mark on history, to capture the deeds as the emperor of the great civilization of the Incas …
And he succeeded in full, although experts say that this complex can hardly be called a city, since there are only two hundred structures in it. On the other hand, the history of Machu Picchu demonstrates that it was built according to a well thought out plan and design. It has everything that is necessary for the life of the emperor and his entourage.
In Machu Picchu, structures for different purposes can be distinguished. Among them there is actually a residence and religious buildings, warehouses. For the construction of buildings and structures, stone was used, moreover, carefully processed, during the construction of the slabs tightly adhered to each other.
Second life of Machu Picchu
Unfortunately, the city fell into disrepair and was forgotten for four hundred years. Perhaps, the modern inhabitants of the planet would never have had a chance to learn about the history of Machu Picchu briefly or in detail, if not for the curiosity of individual representatives of humanity. Yale University professor Hiram Bingham became the first American scientist to visit the site.
Naturally, he would hardly have been able to make such a trip on his own and get to the goal if it were not for the helpers from local residents. The scientist realized immediately that he was not the discoverer of the ancient city of the Incas, firstly, peasants lived here, who fled from society, officials and taxes in search of freedom. Secondly, the so-called adventurers left their traces, the charcoal inscriptions.
The ancient city was taken under the protection of UNESCO, from that moment a real pilgrimage began, there was even a question about limiting the number of visitors. Most of them are curious tourists traveling for unprecedented impressions and emotions. The second category is scientists who dream of solving the riddles left by the ancient civilization.
