The only administrative center of the Russian region, located on the state border, the city of Blagoveshchensk stands on the right bank of the Amur River and a little more than half a kilometer separates it from the Chinese city of Heihe on the opposite side of the river. A view of a provincial Chinese town, whose population, nevertheless, has long exceeded one and a half million, is one of the main attractions of the embankment of Blagoveshchensk. But seriously speaking, Krasnoflotskaya Street, which stretches along the banks of the Amur for several kilometers, is one of the most beautiful in the Far Eastern city of Russia.
Build bridges
The pontoon bridge over the Amur, the ice crossing and navigation during the navigation season are the surest ways to get to the Chinese neighbors for the residents of Blagoveshchensk. A simplified visa regime is valid here for all citizens. The construction of a capital bridge is still only in the plans. For those who prefer to admire the Heihe panorama, it is enough to go to the embankment of Blagoveshchensk:
- Krasnoflotskaya Street begins at the intersection with Lenin Street in the west and continues to the intersection with Pervomayskaya Street in the east.
- After the last reconstruction, the embankment looks very well-groomed and comfortable. The pavement is paved with paving slabs, lighting is provided by modern lanterns, and you can relax on comfortable benches.
Among the architectural and cultural attractions of Krasnoflotskaya Street are the Triumphal Arch, the city fountain and the building of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University. An exposition of the Amur Regional Museum of Local Lore is open on Lenin Street nearby.
History lessons
The Arc de Triomphe appeared on the banks of the Amur in 1881 in honor of the arrival of Tsarevich Nicholas, who became the last Russian emperor. The twenty-meter gate with turrets crowned with two-headed eagles was destroyed by the flood of 1936 and restored 70 years later at the expense of the local diocese and residents of the city.
The Amur Museum of Local Lore is located a block from the embankment of Blagoveshchensk. This is the oldest local history exposition of the Far East, which appeared simultaneously with the Arc de Triomphe. Today's funds of the museum represent the richest material for studying the history of the region and its inhabitants. The bones of fossil animals and unique costumes of Evenk shamans, famous meteorites and samples of minerals mined in the region - in the halls of the museum there are many interesting natural and historical artifacts.
