The capital of the Urals is called Yekaterinburg, which appeared on the map of Russia in 1723. It stands on the banks of the Iset River, which forms four ponds within the city limits - Verkh-Isetsky, Parkovy, Nizhne-Isetsky and Gorodskaya. The favorite vacation spot of the townspeople is the Yekaterinburg embankment, which stretches along the ponds and the river for almost two kilometers.
An excursion into history
The modern embankment in the capital of the Urals until 1919 consisted of three parts:
- The Gymnasic Embankment of Yekaterinburg stretched from Main Avenue to Bolshaya Syezhaya Street.
- Then it continued to Severnaya Street and was called Timofeevskaya.
- The unnamed section of the embankment went further to the place where the Iset turned north. It did not have any buildings until the 20s of the last century. It was only then that the construction of the Red Roof village began on the shore.
The three sites were combined and named the Workers' Youth Quay. Today it adorns the right bank of the City Pond and is considered one of the oldest streets in Yekaterinburg.
The construction of the Gymnasic Embankment began simultaneously with the construction of the buildings of the Yekaterinburg plant and the fortress in the first third of the 18th century, and the hospital was considered its main building. Timofeevskaya embankment in Yekaterinburg in 1845 was decorated with stone, which has survived on its pavement to this day.
Where should a tourist go?
On the embankment there are facades of architectural masterpieces of the past, some of which have the status of monuments of federal significance.
The house of the Chief Chief of Mining Plants of the Ural Ridge was built in the first third of the 19th century. Today the mansion houses the regional hospital. The building of the men's gymnasium appeared on the embankment a little later and gave the name to its site.
There is no transport along the bank of the Iset, and the nearest stop to the embankment of buses on routes 21 and 32 is called "Drama Theater". You can also get here by metro in Yekaterinburg. The required station of the 1st line is "Ploschad 1905 Goda".
The dam is like a picture
The favorite meeting place for Yekaterinburg residents is called Plotinka. This is a bridge on the dam of the city pond, built in the 18th century from waterproof larch. The bridge was reinforced with reinforced concrete structures and today the Plotinka is an important part of the Yekaterinburg embankment. From here, picturesque views of the square and the pond open up, and residents spend the absolute majority of city events and holidays on Plotinka.
