The first embankments appeared in the capital of our country back in the 18th century, when the banks of the Moskva River began to be fortified, first with wood, and then with stone. Later, driveways appeared along the embankments, the total length of which by 1917 reached only four kilometers.
In the 30s of the twentieth century, the embankments of Moscow began to acquire a solid look. They were built in stone and faced with granite, cast-iron fences were erected and benches and lanterns were installed. By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the length of the Moscow embankments was almost 50 km.
Today they are on the list of the main attractions in the capital. Transport traffic is organized along them, moreover, along the banks of the Moskva River it is two-way, and along the embankments of the Yauza River you can only drive in one direction.

Moscow embankments are divided into two broad categories:
- Embankments of the Yauza River. There are exactly twenty of them on the list, and two more passages along the banks of the Yauza are at the design stage. The most famous are Rusakovskaya, Preobrazhenskaya, Lefortovskaya and Golovinskaya embankments.
- Embankments of the Moskva River, of which there are several dozen. Among them are the Kremlin and Moskvoretskaya, Sofiyskaya and Kotelnicheskaya, Krasnopresnenskaya and Krymskaya embankments.
The banks of the Moscow rivers are a great place for walks, photo shoots and excursions. The embankments offer the best views of the historical center and architectural landmarks of the Russian capital.
