Not all official symbols of Russian administrative-territorial units correspond to the principles and traditions of European classical heraldry. For example, the coat of arms of Mordovia is more like an emblem, a complex logo than the main symbol of the republic.
The compositional structure of the coat of arms is quite complex, there are various elements, an extensive color palette. The official symbol of the republic, especially in a color photo, can be viewed for a very long time, knowledge of the basics of heraldry helps to understand the meaning of one or another symbol element.
Description of the heraldic sign of Mordovia
The heraldic sign was approved by the local Parliament in March 1995, in 2002 the law on the state symbol of the republic was issued.
The coat of arms consists of the following important complexes:
- a French-shaped shield with its own symbolic elements;
- gold hryvnia, an ancient feminine adornment;
- a gold wreath of ears in a frame;
- a tricolor ribbon wrapped around the ears;
- an eight-pointed rosette located above the shield.
Each of these complexes, in turn, consists of smaller parts and elements. For example, the shield located in the center of the composition is painted in the colors of the flag of Mordovia, and another heraldic shield is placed on it, this time, the capital of the republic - a running fox under three vertical arrows.
Since ancient times, the golden hryvnia has been a female adornment characteristic of this region. She emphasizes, on the one hand, the desire for beauty and aesthetics, loyalty to tradition. On the other hand, the seven ornaments located on it symbolize the seven large cities of Mordovia.
The eight-pointed rosette is another very popular symbol in traditional Mordovian art. This element with a deep sacred meaning, it is a solar sign, correlates with the sun, life, prosperity.
Color palette and symbology
The main heraldic symbol of the Republic of Mordovia is quite colorful, it contains the colors of the national flag. There is a certain similarity with the colors of the state flag of the Russian Federation, where white, blue, red are present.
The law on the coat of arms of Mordovia emphasizes the difference in the palette, one of the national colors is not red, but madder (dark red). The legislative act prescribes symbols, their location, colors, the meaning of one or another element. It is allowed to use two options - one-color and full-color, it is clear that the latter looks more attractive.
