Are you wondering how the waterfalls of Turkey came to be? At the behest of Murat Pasha, irrigation canals were dug in the 16th century - from them, water rushed to the rocks, and then to the sea. Today these canals no longer exist (they were buried), but despite this, the country has a sufficient number of waterfalls that deserve the attention of tourists.
Duden waterfalls
They are waterfalls formed by the Duden River. Upper Duden is 10-11 km away from the central part of Antalya: its waters rush down from a 20-meter height, forming shallow streams. In the rock, behind this waterfall, you can find several caves, and one of the underground galleries can be visited, since it is equipped for this purpose (in the center of the “hall” there is a hole that allows you to see the sky, and benches on which you can sit and rest). Lower Duden is 8 km away from the center of Antalya (Lara region): its stream falls into the sea from a 40-meter height.
On the territory (entrance - 3 lira), where the waterfalls are located, cafes, souvenir shops, recreation areas with picnic tables and viewing platforms have been created for visitors. Tip: Düden Falls are worth seeing from the sea by going on a boat trip by boat or yacht.
Manavgat
The two-meter waterfall reaches 40 m wide; its uniqueness lies in the fact that during the spring floods it completely goes under water. Around Manavgat you can find fish restaurants and souvenir shops, and from it down the river tourists will be offered to go down to the sea by boat, canoe or small motor ship.
Kurshunlu
This waterfall formed a tributary of the Aksu River, and its stream rushes down from an 18-meter height. It is worth noting that swimming in the waterfall is prohibited, but if you wish, you can descend down the river to plunge into one of the blue lagoons. And in the vicinity of the waterfall, you can arrange a picnic under the shade of trees (at guests' service there is a playground with tables and benches). Locals will surely tell tourists that Kursunlu is endowed with the power of making wishes come true (make a wish and touch its stream with your hands).
Waterfalls in Goynuk canyon
Small waterfalls can be found in the Goynuk canyon, but for this, travelers will have to rent special equipment in the form of a vest, helmet and rubber boots, costing $ 15 (an additional fee for entering the canyon is 5 lira).
