Another city, the record holder in terms of population, is located in Siberia, is the largest transport, industrial, scientific, educational and cultural center. The history of Yekaterinburg began with the construction of an iron plant, and the date of the city's formation is the day when the production of combat hammers began - November 7 (18 in a new style) November 1723.

The role of women in the history of the city

The construction of industrial enterprises and city blocks is the business of real men. The city owes its birth to the famous figure V. Tatishchev, who overcame the resistance of the industrialist N. Demidov, and to thousands of unknown builders who erected building after building.

On the other hand, the city received its first name in honor of the wife of Peter I, Empress Catherine I. The second empress, who bore the same name, fulfilled her important mission: thanks to her decree, the city became the center of the Perm province. The appearance of the Great Siberian tract was called the "window to Asia" - by analogy with the city on the Neva.

The only one in Russia

Yekaterinburg received the status of a "mountain city", the only one in the empire, in 1807; it was also called the capital of the mining region. Further development was facilitated by large gold deposits discovered in the middle of the 18th century in its vicinity.

On the border of the XIX-XX centuries. the leading workers of the factories of Yekaterinburg take part in the revolutionary movement. The very next day after the famous Aurora shot in St. Petersburg, Soviet power was established in the Siberian city. The most tragic events are also associated with it - the execution of Emperor Nicholas II and members of his family.

In July 1918, Yekaterinburg was occupied by the White Guard and Czechoslovak troops, and only a year later the Reds returned to the city. The city has various administrative functions: the center of the Yekaterinburg province (since 1918); the main city of the Ural region (during 1923–1924); the capital of the Sverdlovsk region (after the renaming of the city in October 1924).

Soviet scientists spoke briefly about the pre-revolutionary history of Yekaterinburg, linking the main achievements with the establishment of the new government. Modern historians hold the position that both before the 1917 revolution and after it the city was a large industrial, mining center, had strong scientific organizations and contributed to the development of culture in the region.
