Description of the attraction
The Museum of the History of Architecture and Industrial Technology of the Urals is the first regional architectural museum. It is located in the city of Yekaterinburg in the buildings of the former workshops of a mechanical factory of the XIX century. The museum was opened in March 1975 as a structural subdivision of the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute.
At the end of the second half of the 1970s. in the courtyard of the museum, the opening of the exposition of large-sized equipment from the Urals factories took place. As a result, in 1985 the museum was named the Museum of the History of Architecture and Industrial Technology of the Urals. A few years later, in 1992, a bust of Peter I, who was the founder of mining in the Urals, was installed in the courtyard of the museum. A copy of the pre-revolutionary monument was restored by one of the graduates of the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute and a talented sculptor - S. Chekhomov.
In order to modernize the museum in the early 2000s. all exhibition sections were housed in one building. The exhibits were supplemented by unique collections from the stock collection: drawings of old equipment, photographs of the late 19th - early 20th century. XX century, models of monuments of industrial Ural architecture. From that moment on, the institution began to function as a museum and exhibition complex of the UralGAKhA.
In 2008, a new stage began in the life of the museum, including the reconstruction of existing buildings to accommodate the newly created structural unit of the museum and exhibition complex UralGAKhA. In 2012, the museum was given a new name - the Museum of Architecture and Design. Taking into account the new concept, new thematic and exposition plans were developed, consisting of three sections: "UralGAKhA: history of the university", "Architecture of the Stone Belt", as well as "Ural School of Design". The exposition of the museum is built on the basis of rare fund collections, in which there are about 46 thousand items.
