One of the most beautiful cities on the planet, the old capital of Turkey, can be proud of its main official symbol. The coat of arms of Istanbul, made in one color scheme, on the one hand, looks very modern and stylish. But on the other hand, in some of its elements a very long history of this unusual place can be read.

Color symbolism

The authors of the sketch of the Istanbul coat of arms tried to capture and symbolically convey: the geographical location of the city; a wealth of architectural masterpieces; the supremacy of the Muslim religion.

The heraldic composition from the point of view of the color palette looks rather restrained; two colors have been chosen for the image. Moreover, it can be noted that they are among the most popular in heraldry. It is azure and silver, which is sometimes shown as white.

It is these representatives of the palette that are used to depict the emblem of Istanbul, since the stronghold of the Muslim faith - the mosque - was most often painted in white and blue. Until now, in the Old City you can find many beautiful religious buildings of Muslims, decorated with azure paintings and mosaics.

In addition, these colors are important in heraldry, for example, the silver color symbolizes purity, truthfulness, nobility. Azure is associated with such characteristics as loyalty, honesty, perfection.

City on seven hills

Color photos of Istanbul show in all its glory this amazing old city, which is geographically located in two parts of the world. The second peculiarity of the geographical position of the city is that its historical part is located on seven hills. It was this place that attracted the founders of the city, who considered such accommodation to be profitable.

In ancient times it was called “the city on seven hills”, today these hills (in the form of silver triangles on a blue background) are present in the coat of arms. In addition, according to one of the legends, a mosque was previously built on each of these hills.

Reflection of a beautiful old legend and modern design are the main distinguishing characteristics of the city's coat of arms. The immeasurable love of residents for their official symbol is evidenced by the fact that stickers with its image can be seen everywhere.
