The map of the capital of Campania shows that it is divided into 30 districts (quarters). But tourists will be most interested in the quarters and districts of Naples, the formation of which took place historically (some of them coincide with the borders of the districts).
Names and descriptions of the districts of Naples
- Spaccanapoli: on both sides of the street of the same name, guests will be greeted by a “labyrinth” with narrow lanes, which can be explored by hikers.
- Vomero: it will appeal to lovers of silence; of interest is the Montesanto cable car, the castle of Sant Elmo (in the local museum, guests will visit historical and art exhibitions) and the Carthusian monastery (there is a marble finish in the interior; there is a museum with an art collection; and a wonderful view of the Gulf of Naples opens from the observation deck) …
- Spagnoli: For walking, the lively Via Toledo is a must.
- Posillipo: It is recommended to see the ruins of the former Roman Villa Pausilipo.
- Via San Gregorio Armeno: if you are interested in workshops and craft shops, you should visit this place, where they will meet artists, sculptors, silversmiths (you can buy your favorite things from them or make an individual order).
- Decumano Inferiore: This area is a great place for a photo with monumental buildings and historical sites in the background. It is worth visiting the San Severo Chapel (its “treasures” are presented in the form of artistic tombstones made of marble - sculptural images of various virtues, as well as sculptures of the 18th century, for example, “Deliverance from the Enchantment”).
- Chiaia: famous for the Piazza del Plebescita (shaped like an amphitheater) with the Royal Palace Palazzo Reale (interesting for the National Library with 1000 books and rare papyri, and the Museum with canvases of Guercino, Titian, Mattia Preti), the Basilica of San Francesco di -Paolo (it is recommended to admire the altar, which is decorated with frescoes and sculptures), the gallery of Umberto I (is a large shopping arcade).
Vacationers in Naples should admire another attraction - the Vesuvius volcano (its slopes "sheltered" archaeological sites).
Where to stay for tourists
Tourists wishing to settle in a cozy place can bet on the Vomero district - it will delight them with the presence of old coffee houses, museums and shops.
Do you want to be able to walk every day in the gardens and squares, as well as along the winding streets overlooking the bay? Accommodation in the Posillipo area will suit you.
Rooms in hotels at rather tempting prices can be rented in the area around the Central Station (from 30 euros / day). Another “plus” of accommodation in this place is the nearby Garibaldi Square, from where you can get to anywhere in the city by metro, tram or bus. Before booking rooms, it is worth considering the "minus" in the form of noise and dirt.
