European Slovakia does not occupy the first lines in tourist ratings, but its amazing nature and cultural and historical heritage attract travelers who prefer medieval architectural sights and inexpensive ski resorts to the noisy crowd in popular world capitals. Many fans of ancient castles and leisurely walks surrounded by mountain landscapes land at the airports of Slovakia.
Russian tourists can get to Slovakia on the wings of UTair on a direct flight and with docks on the planes of other European carriers. The journey will take from 3 hours depending on the chosen route.
International airports in Slovakia
The list of airports in Slovakia includes more than a dozen geographical objects, but apart from the capital, only two have international status:
- Kosice in the south-east of the country is located 6 km from the city and receives daily domestic flights, international regular flights and charters. Taxis and public buses will help you to get to the center from the passenger terminal, which will take no more than 15 minutes to travel. You can fly to this airport in Slovakia on the wings of Austrian and Czech airlines with regular flights from Vienna, Prague and Bratislava, as well as on board the budget Wizz Air from Bergamo, Bristol, London and Sheffield.
- Fans of outdoor activities rush to the air harbor of Poprad-Tatry in winter. The city where the airport is located is considered one of the main centers of ski tourism in Slovakia. Poprad Airport is the highest in Europe among those that receive regular flights. Its height above sea level is 718 meters. The ubiquitous Wizz Air from London fly here, and AirBaltic seasonally delivers athletes from Riga and Warsaw to the slopes of the Tatras.
Metropolitan direction
The Bratislava airport in Slovakia is named after M. R. Stefánik and is located 9 km north-east of the city. The nearest major European airport in Vienna is about 50 km away.
The first regular flight from Prague was opened here back in 1923, and today a modern terminal, built in 2012, and a reliable runway are a source of pride for Bratislava residents.
Airport guests and passengers are offered duty-free shops, suitcase packing, souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes, free wireless Internet and special facilities for people with disabilities. Currency exchange and car rental offices are located in the arrivals area.
Transfer to the city
The easiest way to get to Bratislava is by bus line 61, which goes from the terminal to the railway station in the center. The bus runs 24 hours a day. A bus leaves for Vienna every 45 minutes, delivering passengers to the center of the Austrian capital through its airport.
Taxis are available outside the terminal. Parking at Bratislava Airport is possible for both short and long term. The price of parking one car per day is 20 euros.
