This island state in the Pacific Ocean belongs to Micronesia. Long-distance flights and high prices for air tickets do not stop fans of great diving, and compatriots periodically meet at Palau airport who want to dive into the pristine waters of the Philippine Sea.
The way from Moscow to the capital of Palau, Ngerulmund, will not seem easy. There are no direct flights in any airport schedule, but with connections it will take at least 19 hours to get there, depending on the route and transfers. The fastest flights are via Manila, Hong Kong, Taipei or Seoul.
Palau International Airport
Palau's only international airport has several names. First, it is named after the local politician Roman Tmetuchl. In addition, the air harbor is called the Airai airport and Babeltuape-Koror. The fact is that Babelthuape is an island, and the city where the airport is located is called Koror. It and the passenger terminal are only 4 km away. But Airai is the largest settlement on the island, and therefore its name is also present in the "passport" of the country's air gates.
Services and directions
The very small size of the airport limits its ability to receive heavy aircraft and place them on the airfield. Today, the directions of flights from Palau's capital airport are limited to a very modest list:
- Asiana Airlines and Korean Air transport everyone to the capital of South Korea, Seoul.
- Belau Air operates domestic flights.
- China Airlines offers its wings as transportation to Taipei.
- Delta Air Lines flies to Tokyo. Japan Airlines board also goes there, but on a seasonal basis.
- United Airlines has flights to Manila and Guam on its schedule.
- Mega Maldives kicks off seasonally in Macau to travel from there to the Maldives.
- Palau Pacific Airways delivers passengers to Hong Kong at certain times of the year.
Transfer to the cities of Airai and Koror are available by taxi, but the most convenient way to get to the hotel will be a transfer ordered from there.
Modest duty-free shops and cafes overlooking the take-off are available at Palau Airport while awaiting departure.
Alternate aerodromes
An island nation, Palau prefers aviation as its main transport. In addition to the capital's international air harbor, there are a couple of quite worthy airports in the country, connected with the island of Babelthuape by regular service:
- The runway on Anguar Island has existed since the 40s of the last century. Today planes with tourists from Koror and Peleliu land there.
- In Peleliu itself, the airfield is slightly larger, but still it is capable of receiving only light aircraft. In addition to Anguar, they fly from here to the capital's harbor in Koror.
