The fastest way to get to Latvia is by air - a flight from Moscow to Riga takes no more than an hour and a half. The capital airport of Latvia accepts direct flights of airlines from Russia and sends its own Air Baltic planes on the way.

International airports of Latvia

International status has been assigned to three Latvian air harbors:

  • Riga Airport is located 10 km from the historical center of the Latvian capital. The largest in the country, it serves nearly 5 million passengers annually.
  • The airport in Liepaja is also certified for international traffic, but in 2014 it was closed for the reconstruction of the passenger terminal. The city where the airport is located is located on the Riga seaside, and therefore this air port is the most important transport hub in the country. The opening of the modernized terminal is scheduled for early 2016. In addition to bus N2, which can be taken from Liepaja airport, guests of the city will be offered taxi services.
  • The youngest international airport in Latvia opened in 1975 in Ventspils. Due to the high requirements of the European Union for the certification of international air ports, today this harbor accepts only small private aircraft.

Metropolitan direction

The only international airport in Latvia operating today is located on the outskirts of the capital. It has the status of the largest in the Baltics and receives and dispatches dozens of flights every day. Riga is connected by air routes with 80 cities in three dozen countries, and the base airlines of its air harbor are Air Baltic, SmartLynx Airlines, Raf-Avia and Wizz Air. The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair is also a frequent visitor to the Riga airfield.

In 2001, the last modernization began at the airport, which resulted in the reconstruction of the "take-off" and the construction of a new terminal. Today, passengers arriving or departing to the Schengen countries have Terminal B at their disposal, and all other flights are served in Terminals A and C.

Transfer and useful information

The easiest way to overcome the 10 km separating the airfield and the center of Riga is by bus N22. Airport Express, offered by Air Baltic, delivers passengers directly to the hotel of their choice. Taxi services will cost a little more and you can order a car at a special counter in the arrivals area. The information center at the main airport of Latvia provides detailed information about the bus schedule and their routes at its stand, and all the necessary information about the operation of the air harbor on the website - www.riga-airport.com.

Small aircraft

Adazi Airport, 30 km north of Riga, is capable of accepting up to 60 private planes daily - it has the appropriate equipment and certification. This air harbor is the first private airfield in the republic, and in addition to flights, it offers its potential clients training services for ultra light aircraft, advertising flights, aircraft repair work and rental for various events.
