Brunei's only international airport is located in the north-east of the country. It was officially opened in 1974 and can accommodate up to two million passengers a year. However, the not too simple visa system adopted in Brunei does not serve as an additional argument in favor of visiting this Asian state.
The same Russian travelers, who are the lucky owners of the cherished right to enter, will have to fly through Thailand and transfer there to flights of local airlines to the Brunei capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The second way is a flight through Malaysia with a connection to Kuala Lumpur. In any case, you will have to spend at least 12 hours on the road from Moscow or St. Petersburg, taking into account the connection.
Brunei International Airport
Brunei's only international airport also serves as a base for the country's Royal Air Force. The city where the airport is located is called Bandar Seri Begawan, and the planes of the national air carrier Royal Brunei Airlines fly to Bangkok, Denpasar, Dubai, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Melbourne, Shanghai, Singapore and Jeddah. In addition, air carriers often appear on the tarmac of Brunei airport:
- AirAsia delivering passengers to Malaysia.
- Cebu Pacific, which takes you to the Philippines.
- Malaysia Airlines operating between Brunei Airport and Kuala Lumpur.
- Singapore Airlines flying to Singapore.
The terminal of Brunei International Air Harbor was renovated in 2013, when a new modern arrivals hall was inaugurated on its territory.
Formalities and subtleties
All passengers of the plane flying up to Brunei will have to fill out an arrival and departure form, a tear-off coupon from which will be attached to the traveler's passport by border guards. The medical questionnaire, filled out there, is to be presented to the quarantine control workers. The import of alcohol to Brunei is strictly limited to a liter per adult passenger, and for attempting to smuggle drugs, guests face the death penalty. These circumstances should be borne in mind when passing through customs inspection.
Transfer to the city
8 km to the city can be overcome in three ways - on foot, by taxi and by regular bus. The absence of a sidewalk along the highway makes the first method almost unrealistic, but buses on route 34 take the traveler to the center of the capital in about half an hour. The stop is located 300 meters from the exit from the terminal after the car parking.
A taxi costs about $ 10 (data as of August 2015), but if you have to travel to Brunei airport from the center of Bandar Seri Begawan, another half is automatically added to the price.
