The capital of Japan is so huge that the border where the city smoothly flows into the suburbs of Tokyo is practically indistinguishable. The economy of the giant metropolis is the largest in the world among urban ones, and according to various estimates, the capital of Japan, together with its surroundings, is considered home to up to 37 million people.
Ambassadors and geisha
The suburb of Tokyo Minato is essentially one of twenty-three special areas into which the Japanese capital is territorially divided. It is in Minato that the embassies of the largest countries are located, with which the Land of the Rising Sun has established diplomatic relations. The Russian Embassy is one of them.
Tourists in this suburb of Tokyo are attracted by the opportunity to visit the famous Akasaka geisha quarter. Tea houses and musical theaters have been preserved in their original form for several centuries, despite the fact that the geisha community today is a completely modern organization with its own accounting and governing bodies.
Six trees
This suburb of Tokyo is famous for its active nightlife. Roppongi was once bounded by the six trees that gave it its name. Today, in the local clubs, bars, discos and restaurants you can meet tourists from all over the world, and the sizes, prices and specifics of the establishments are designed for a very different client.
Behind the sunshine
One of the oldest pilgrimage centers in Japan is called Nikko, which literally means "sunlight". Its rather remote location from the capital in Japan does not scare anyone - 140 km by local standards is not a distance at all, and therefore locals often rest in this suburb of Tokyo.
Nikko National Park has an extensive sightseeing program:
- Kegon Falls falls from a height of almost 100 meters. It is formed by a river flowing from the mountain lake Tyuzen-ji. A tea house has been built at the foot of the most beautiful waterfall in Japan.
- Lake Chuzen-ji is rich in trout, which can be tasted in the authentic restaurants of the national park.
- The Shinto shrine of Tosho-gu is the burial place of the great statesman and commander of the Tokugawa shogun. The tomb is surrounded by centuries-old Japanese cedars.
Nikko National Park and the suburb of Tokyo itself are included by UNESCO in the lists of the World Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
