Description of the attraction

Another museum that is especially popular and famous is the Cat Museum. Only in this museum you can find out a huge number of interesting cases from the life of cats. The museum has been operating in Siauliai since 1990. The museum is located on the second floor of a building intended for the station of young naturalists.

The founder of the museum and its current owner is Vanda Kavaliauskienė. This woman began to collect a collection of cats back in the 60s of the last century. The first statuette, which marked the beginning of the collection, was presented to the owner of the museum in 1962. The collection soon grew rapidly and multiplied rapidly; it became inconvenient to keep all the exhibits at home. Then the city naturalist station decided to help Vanda Kavaliauskienė with the premises for the new museum.

The exposition of the museum presents more than ten thousand cats collected from all over the world: from America, England, Japan, Cuba, Korea, Belgium, Africa and Lithuania. On the exhibits, cats are presented in a variety of unusual places, for example, in the ornaments of stair railings, on colored stained-glass windows, sitting on chairs and on lamps. Cats are found on souvenirs, photographs, postcards, postage stamps, dishes, books and even poetry. Various kittens and cats are created from crystal, porcelain, ceramics or amber.
