Description of the attraction

The Moscow Cat Museum was organized in 1993 by the INTER Gallery. The museum funds contain a large collection of artworks that show cats through the eyes of artists. Here are the works of artists, executed in different genres. These are sculptural works, graphic and painting. Tapestry, ceramics, batik, dolls, costumes and installations. As well as books, photographs, postcards, souvenirs, films, toys and other items related to cats.

The Cat Museum is a cozy home. The cat is presented to the organizers as a mysterious creature that cannot be fully solved. The cat is the only animal that has been depicted by artists of all time. The cat was and is being depicted now by artists of all directions and schools - from realistic art to avant-garde. The museum has no stylistic framework, and the degree of the artist's fame does not matter.

The museum exposition contains paintings from the beginning of the century and modern works. Picturesque canvases and sculptures made of clay are exhibited nearby, gold embroidery is adjacent to batik, exhibits made of metal, stone and wood. The exposition of the museum has wonderful collections of works united by the themes: "Women and Cats", "Cat's Eye". Some of the paintings on display have a special magic. Such is the picture "A lonely cat of a single man". In the yellow pupil of a cat's eye, you can see the profiles of a man and a woman.

But the main exhibit of the museum is a live fluffy Siberian cat.

The collection of the museum has been repeatedly exhibited abroad. Exhibitions were held in Italy, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany and Denmark, as well as Austria.

The Cat Museum hosts the annual “Woman and Cat” beauty contest. Children's drawings from all over Russia and the CIS countries take part in the "Children's Cat Drawing" competition held by the museum. The best works are included in the children's collection of the museum. The museum holds auctions and exhibitions - sales of works dedicated to cats. Demonstrations of cat fashion are periodically held. Dance and theater groups perform, as well as film screenings.

The Moscow Cat Museum, in 2004, with the support of the UN, established "World Cat Day", which is celebrated on the first day of March.
