Description of the attraction

The Akvavit Vodka Museum is located in the port area of Aalborg, about a ten-minute walk from its historic center. It is located in the building of an old distillery, founded in 1881.

Aquavit is a Scandinavian alcoholic drink, an analogue of Russian vodka and German schnapps. The first documented use of aquavit dates back to the 16th century. It is created on the basis of alcohol, the strength of which does not exceed 50%, obtained by processing fruits, berries and even vegetables. Then the drink for some time - sometimes even up to several years - is infused with spices. The Aalborg version of aquavit is famous for the fact that the Danes add amber to this drink. Aquavit is used chilled as an aperitif.

The Aalborg distillery is currently the largest producer and exporter of aquavit in the world. The factory building itself was improved in 1931 in accordance with the traditions of the neoclassical architectural style.

The Aquavita Museum is open only in the summer months, but it offers tourists to literally plunge into the world of making spirits. The visiting program includes a two-hour guided tour of the plant building. Visitors can get acquainted with the methods of making aquavit, with the principles of operation of the main devices and mechanisms presented at the factory. Tourists will also be told about the history of the creation of the company "Aquavit" and the main milestones of its existence. The tour ends, of course, with a drink tasting. The museum displays various types of aquavit, including an anniversary edition dedicated to the company's centenary. There is also a souvenir shop on the territory of the plant and the museum, where you can buy your favorite bottled drink.
