If there is a desire to get back to the Soviet Union, then a trip to Kyrgyzstan may well become a similar excursion into such a distant past. Kyrgyzstan is a small Asian country, but this makes it no less interesting to travel.

Public transport

The main option for moving within the country is buses, taxis and minibuses. At the same time, they are used both for trips within cities, and as an intercity mode of transport. Sometimes they become the only possible way to get to the place you want. In the territory of Bishkek, Osh and Naryn, there is additionally a tram service. The fare is low. The bus fleet is quite comfortable.

Both buses and minibuses operate on intercity routes. The prices are not too high and the cost of travel must be negotiated with the driver. You can get to the mountain settlements by converted into passenger trucks. And in some remote parts of the country you can only get there on horseback or by helicopter.

Taxis can be found in all settlements. The fare for the trip is very low. It is better to use the services of official cabbies, and not private traders. In this case, the trip will be both safer and more comfortable.

Air transport

The role of the international airport was taken over by Manas. Geographically, it is located not far from the capital of the country, the city of Bishkek. Domestic flights are also operated from here. There are also airport complexes only in Osh, Jalal-Abad and Batken.

The aircraft fleet has long been outdated and is represented by leased Boeing-737s and aircraft delivered to the country during the existence of the USSR.

Railway transport

Rail transport plays a very important role in the communication of Kyrgyzstan with other countries. Almost all international transportation is carried out by rail. But at the same time, the total length of the railway track is only 370 km.

You can go on a trip only from the Bishkek railway station. From here you can go to Russia (to Moscow, Novokuznetsk and Yekaterinburg). There is also a suburban service in the country. The starting point is Bishkek, the final stops are: Merke (terminal “3639 km”); to Tokmak station; Rybachye town (Issyk-Kul lake).

Water transport

There are few navigable rivers in the country, so the main representatives on them are private boats and cutters. Motor ships sail along the waters of Issyk-Kul.

Car rental

You can rent a car in the country. But it must be remembered that the road network is practically undeveloped. Good road surface can only be found on the highways connecting Bishkek with Osh, Alma-Ata and Rybachye. Another good road goes around Issyk-Kul Lake.

Most of the roads are broken asphalt, gravel or dirt roads.
