The ethnic characteristics of Crimea are a complex issue that has been highly politicized lately. Crimea is a piece of land, the history of which is filled with wars, conquests, and bloody battles. But it is also a wonderful nature, hospitable people, warm sea and radiant sun.

Crimean Tatars

They live on their own, in suburban areas of major urban centers. The settlements of the Crimean Tatars were built a long time ago, especially for the residence of people belonging to these national minorities. You need to know that the Crimean Tatars profess Islam, therefore it is forbidden to photograph them without obtaining consent. Tourists or students from other countries, which also profess Islam, are most often dressed in Muslim clothes. However, you shouldn't risk it so that the locals don't take offense at you.

In Crimea, they speak Russian. It has preserved cultural traditions that are more in line with Soviet times. These traditional features can be called both positive and negative. Young people are more trying to support modern Western cultural trends, but older people are committed to the traditions of the Soviet era. Well, there are positives in everything.

Today in Crimea there are no difficulties with communication between the indigenous population and newcomers. There is no acute problem of understanding between Russians and Ukrainians, young and old people. Often, these are fictions of the media chasing a sensation. The main problem of Crimea is, oddly enough, the lack of a traditional national flavor. It is very important for visiting tourists to see something new, unusual, unconventional for them. Today, the owners of restaurants, cafes and other public institutions are trying to somehow diversify their life by introducing elements of national symbols. In connection with the current political situation, the national symbols in Crimea are Russian.
