The Republic of Moldova has municipalities as the main territorial divisions. These regions of Moldova contain communes, villages and cities, and the latter, being the administrative centers of districts, are called residence cities. Statistics show that there are 32 districts, 5 municipalities and 2 autonomous territorial entities in the country.

The regions of Moldova, called municipalities, are the capital of the country Chisinau, as well as Balti, Bendery, Comrat and Tiraspol. The most numerous of them is a territorial entity - Chisinau, where more than 700 thousand people live. Balti and Bendery have 127 and 90 thousand inhabitants, respectively. Other most populated cities in the country include Ungheni, Straseni, Soroca, Orhei, Cahul, Hancesti and Falesti. All of them are the cities-residences of the districts of the same name.

From the point of view of a traveler, many regions of Moldova are of undoubted interest, and therefore their visit should be included in the itinerary:
- In the city of Orhei, the remains of an ancient Geto-Dacian fortress of the 6th century BC have been preserved. with underground passages.
- In Bendery, it is worth looking at the Bendery fortress of the 16th century and the Transfiguration Cathedral, the construction of which marked the liberation of Bessarabia from Turkish rule. Visiting Bendery will require special permission from local border guards, as tourists will have to cross the Dniester security zone.
- The city of Cricova, part of the Chisinau municipality, is one of the most popular points on the map of the country among fans of good wines. The local wine cellars are the largest in the Old World, and the very first sample of wine kept here dates back to 1902.
- In the city of Kamenka, on the territory of the Pridnestrovian Republic, there is a well-known sanatorium complex "Dniester". This resort not only cures many diseases, but also hosts the annual October symposium of world-class Kam Art artists.
- The resort town of Cahul in the eponymous region of Moldova is famous for its mineral water, on the basis of which a modern health resort has been opened. Cahul waters help patients with problems of the cardiovascular system, diseases of the skin and joints. History buffs will love the excursion to the local history museum with unique archaeological exhibits in the exhibition halls.
