Description of the attraction

The National Museum of the History of Moldova was founded in 1983 and is located in the historical center of Chisinau. The museum is located in the building of the former Regional Lyceum - the first male gymnasium on the territory of Moldova. In front of the museum there is the famous statue of the Latin she-wolf with Romulus and Remus - an exact copy of the monument erected in Rome.

The museum has ten exhibition halls with permanent and temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibition is located on the ground floor and has more than 4 thousand exhibits that clearly illustrate historical events, cultural life, traditional life of the inhabitants of Moldova. The dating of the exhibits is from the Paleolithic to the present day.

Of particular interest to visitors is the archaeological and numismatic collections, among which are presented such unique exhibits as the head of a war chariot, a bronze candlestick and a Getae helmet, dating from the 4th-5th century BC, as well as the first detailed map of Moldova, compiled in 1781.

In total, the museum contains about 300,000 exhibits (including storerooms) collected throughout the country, more than 16,000 of them are the national treasure of Moldova.
