Transport in France is reliable and varied, with many vehicles manufactured by the French themselves.
Popular modes of transport in France
- Public transport: to travel by buses, metro and trams, you need to purchase a single ticket Ticket1 (with the exception of high-speed metro and night buses), sold in tobacco and newsstands, at metro ticket offices, Vente Tickets vending machines. If you decide to buy a ticket from the driver, then it will be a one-time ticket and operate only on this route. During rush hours, you should not use buses (they are overcrowded), but they should be used for long-distance travel (international and intercity flights) - the fare will be 40-50% cheaper than by train.
- Rail transport: it is advisable to travel around the country on high-speed trains - it is quite expensive, but you will be able to save your time. For example, the journey from Paris to the south coast will take no more than 4 hours. And if you need to get to the city of any small province, often this can only be done using the services of regional trains.
- Water transport: if you wish, you can take a ferry to the shores of Great Britain or the island of Corsica, and you can ride on the canals of Paris and Strasbourg by river trams. In addition, a boat and yacht rental service is available in resort areas and on the Cote d'Azur (about 50 euros).
Taxi
Catching a taxi on the street is a rather difficult task (catching a taxi with a wave of your hand is not customary in the country), and even at a special parking lot you often have to wait for your turn for 15-20 minutes, so it is advisable to order a taxi in advance.
Bike rental
Since all major cities have special markings, convenient bike paths and rental points at every corner, by renting a bike, you can get to know French cities better, while saving your time and money (rental cost - 1-2 euros / day).
Car rent
Do you want to see the lavender fields of Provence, the beautiful landscapes of the Côte d'Azur, the vineyards of Champagne and Bordeaux? To rent, you need to have an IDP and a credit card (you must be over 21 years old, but for renting some models, you must be at least 23 years old).
