A young Asian state close to the giants of the tourism business, Cambodia is rapidly developing the leisure industry, offering tourists from different countries and continents its cultural attractions and entertainment highlights.
Almost all the provinces of Cambodia (a total of 23) have names that are very difficult for a Slav, while reflecting the melodiousness of the local language and symbolism.
In the lap of nature
Cambodia is a country whose main wealth is its unique tropical nature. The number of birds, reptiles and fish goes into the hundreds. The record holder for the number of species of fauna is considered to be Tonle Sap, a unique biosphere reserve. The second most important biological region is the Kravan Mountains, which are located in the east and northeast of Cambodia. The south-west of the country is ready to acquaint European tourists with the natural wealth of the Botum Sakor National Park.
Main attraction
According to the unanimous opinion of the indigenous people of Cambodia and its numerous guests from abroad, this honorary title was awarded to Angkor Wat, the world's largest temple complex, built in honor of the Hindu god Vishnu.
And here there was absolutely no need for an advertisement for a cult place from Angelina Jolie, who played the role of Lara Croft. And so, every second tourist who comes to Cambodia plans to visit the unique Angkor Wat temple, which consists of three levels, five towers and many stairs, passages.
In general, about 200 different monuments are located on the territory of the complex, including:
- five-tiered Phnom-Bakheng, belonging to the earliest buildings;
- Angkor Thom, a citadel that protected the Bayon pyramid, the Royal Palace, temples and terraces;
- Bayon Temple (which has the same name as the pyramid), on each tower of which you can see the face of the Buddha.
Delicious name
The province, whose name sounds delicious, Kampot, is also in the spotlight for tourists. The administrative center and the river on which it stands have the same name. Many French villas are built on its banks, which remained from the time of French colonization.
Among the places worth visiting in the province of Kampot, tourists themselves noted the cave temples that appeared before the famous Angkor, Bokor National Park and Popokvil Waterfall. There is a bridge above it, with the help of which you can get over to the other side and go down below to see a magnificent spectacle of falling water.
