In the Atlantic Ocean there is an archipelago of 7 large and several small land areas - the Canary Islands. It is located near the coast of Western Sahara and Morocco (northwest Africa). The Canary Islands are an autonomous community of Spain. They have two capitals at once: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
a brief description of
The largest and most populous island is Tenerife. To the east of it is the island of Gran Canaria, and to the west - the islands of Hierro, Gomera, Palma. The archipelago belongs geographically to Macronesia. Together with the Cape Verde Islands, the Azores, Selvagens and Madeira, they form a community of volcanic islands. The Canary Islands formed on the site where Atlantis previously existed, according to some researchers.
An inaccessible island is San Borondon, which appears and disappears. It is considered the eighth Canary island and the main mystery of the archipelago. This is a hypothetical land area described by many medieval travelers. As for the population of the Canary Islands, it is represented by the Guanches, the Spaniards and the descendants of marriages between the indigenous population and the Spaniards.
The most popular islands in the archipelago
Tourists generally tend to visit Tenerife. Rest for every taste is possible there. A noisier resort is the neighboring island of Las Americas. Puerto de la Cruz is visited by those who prefer a relaxing holiday in nature. Excellent beaches are located on the island of Gran Canaria. Fuerventura and Lanzarote are also attractive for recreation. The latter is especially attractive for wildlife lovers. There are 300 volcanoes on this island.
Climate features
The islands are influenced by a trade wind tropical climate. It is moderately dry and hot. The weather conditions are influenced by the proximity to the Sahara, from where the wind comes, bringing sand and heat. The eastern islands are the driest. The trade winds from the Atlantic blow from the northeastern side. They soften the climate a little, bringing moisture with them. The beaches are never too hot. The islands have mountainous terrain, which also affects the climate. The water temperature in coastal areas during the year does not drop below +20 degrees. The air temperature changes insignificantly. In winter, it is very rarely below +20 here. On the coast in the winter season, the air does not warm up above +25 degrees. In summer, the temperature is often fixed at around +30 degrees and above.
