The holiday season in Mauritius is year-round, because, despite the downpours and cyclones that hit the island in certain months, the temperature of the water and air is always at a comfortable level. Still, the best time to visit Mauritius is November - May.
Tourist season in Mauritius
- Spring: Rainy weather is typical for March-mid-April, but tropical cyclones affect the northern and western regions of the country to a lesser extent. It is worth considering that changeable weather prevails in spring, which means that during one day it can be cloudy, rainy, and sunny.
- Summer: in summer on the island - "winter" (daytime air temperature - + 24-26, and night - + 17-18 degrees). In June and July, the weather is not very favorable due to strong winds.
- Autumn: this season can be called relatively dry (sometimes it rains, which does not cause any inconvenience for various types of recreation).
- Winter: Heavy but short rains are possible in December-January. Despite this fact, at this time of the year the ocean is quite warm and calm (water temperature is + 27-28 degrees). It is worth considering that sunbathing on the beaches in winter, even when the sky is covered with clouds, there is a high risk of getting sunburned (high level of insolation), so you should not neglect sunscreens.
Beach season in Mauritius
The duration of the beach season is 365 days a year: in winter, the water temperature warms up to + 23-24, and in summer up to +28 degrees. But you will feel most comfortable on the island in November-January and April-May - during these periods the weather is rather hot, but it is not exhausting thanks to the constantly blowing southeast trade winds. For relaxation, you can choose such beaches as Tamarin, Belle Mare, Cap Maleru, Grand Bay, Mont Choisy, Flic-en-Flac, Blue Bay.
Diving
The diving season on the island lasts from September to January.
Plunging into the Indian Ocean, you will be able to meet sea eagles, barracudas, giant turtles, blue marlin, whitetip sharks, sailing past coral gardens, thickets of gargonaria, marble caves, underwater grottoes. The best conditions for diving are the lagoons of the island group Ile Rond, Gabrielle, Cuen de Mir, Ile Plat, Me-o-Serpents.
Surfing
Duration of the surf season: November - April, June - July, although beginners can surf, windsurf and kite all year round. There are few “tidbits” for surfers on the island. One of these places is Tamarina Bay (southwest of the island).
If your goal is to escape from worldly worries and take a break from civilization, soak up the white-sandy coast and luxury resorts offering their guests various services (pools, restaurants, spa, golf courses, ocean fishing), then a vacation in Mauritius is, what you need.
