The Kaluga region has 4 airfields, among which it is worth highlighting 3 - Ermolino airport, Grabtsevo airport and Shaikovka airport.

Grabtsevo airport

Grabtsevo is the only civil airport in the Kaluga region. The airport is currently not in operation. It is used only as a landing pad for some aircraft and helicopters.

The airport was put into operation in the 70s of the last century. At that time, regular flights to Donetsk, Voronezh, Anapa and other cities were carried out from here.

Unfortunately, in 2001 the airport ceased to function due to lack of funding. Since that time, there has been an active search for investors for the reconstruction of the airport and the resumption of its work.

Financing has recently begun and the completion of the renovation is scheduled for the end of 2014. The reconstruction is carried out by the Chinese company "PETRO-KHEHUA". In the course of the work, the runway will be improved, a new passenger terminal will be built, etc. As a result, the airport will be able to serve over 100 thousand passengers a year.

Ermolino airport

The airport in the Kaluga region of Ermolino is a military one and is located near the town of Balabanovo.

The airport has one runway, its length is 3000 meters. The runway is capable of receiving such aircraft as Il-76, Tu-154, An-72, etc. In addition to state aviation, the airport is used by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Air Force of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the State Committee for Defense Industry of the Russian Federation.

At the moment, the Russian airline UTair is engaged in the reconstruction of the airport, which is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year. According to the plans, the Ermolino airport will serve low-cost flights, and its capacity will be 6 million passengers per year.

Shaikovka airport

Shaikovka airport is a large military airfield in the Kaluga region. On the territory of the airport there are Tu-22M3 aircraft, as well as Mi-8 helicopters.

This airport has one runway, 3600 meters long, which is reinforced with concrete.
