Gomel is one of the oldest cities in Belarus. The first mentions of him in the annals date back to 1142, he was then called "Gomius". The city was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania for over 400 years, and in 1772 it became part of the Russian State. Catherine II presented the city to Field Marshal P. A. Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky for his great services to the Fatherland. On the right bank of the Sozh River, on his order, a magnificent palace was laid; to this day, it is the main attraction of the city. A. Rumyantsev.

Prince Paskevich glorified himself by planting trees of the rarest varieties next to his estate. A wonderful unique park has grown up, along the paths of which you can walk even today. The paths in the park will lead to the monument to the victims of the Great Patriotic War, its opening took place half a century ago, but even today you can see a huge number of fresh flowers at its foot.
