Description of the attraction

The Gomel Youth Theater opened its first season on October 13, 1992 with the premiere of the play "Travelers in the Night" by S. Stratiev. It was founded by Grigory Figlin, a native of Gomel, a Moscow businessman, Belarusian patriot and philanthropist. He dreamed of giving his hometown something significant and decided to donate a theater.

The original name was the Independent Theater, artistic director and director - Yakov Natapov. In July 1995, a tragic event took place that almost ruined the young theater - under mysterious circumstances in Moscow, Grigory Figlin, who financed the work of the theater, was killed. For some time the theater was taken care of by the sister of Grigory Figlin, director Galina Shofman. Despite her heroic efforts, funds were still lacking, and in 1998 the question of closing the theater arose.

In 1998, at the request of the artists, the theater was taken over by the mayor of Gomel, Alexander Serafimovich Yakobson, under the tutelage and for the budget of the city. In 1999, the theater became known as the Gomel City Youth Theater-Studio.

The performances of the Gomel Youth Theater were awarded prizes at the "Slavic Theater Meetings". The theater puts on plays based on the drama of contemporary Belarusian, Russian and foreign authors. The theater plays performances not only for adults, but also for children. The theater makes 4-6 new productions per year.

In 2012, the theater celebrated its 20th anniversary. The collective celebrated the anniversary with a cheerful skit and promises to delight its audience in the future with original unforgettable theatrical performances. The Gomel Youth Theater still does not have its own premises. He has to rent premises and pay a significant amount for the rent of the hall.
